Florida contains around 530 species of birds. Some of them are with us year round, and some visit us at certain times of the year. We won't try to cover them all, but we will look at some of the more familiar and interesting species. This book will cover most backyard birds seen in your yards, trees, bushes, at your feeders, and more. I wouldn't usually include wading birds, but they are so abundant in Florida that I have decided to do so. Some of these birds you will recognize immediately, and you may see them in your yard daily. Some will be seasonal visitors and may be birds you associate with particular times of the year. Some birds are signs of spring, and some are signs of winter. In this book, you will find great color pictures, detailed descriptions, information on sounds, diet, and more. I hope you will use this to identify the birds you see and enjoy those birds even more.
Whether you choose to call them white-tailed deer, whitetails, Virginia deer, or Odocoileus virginianus, it's all the same. There are few animals that are as celebrated by hunters in North America and other parts of the world as the white-tailed deer. A seemingly endless amount of time and money are spent every year in pursuit of that trophy buck. Look in the homes of many hunters, and often the most proudly displayed trophy is that of a large white-tailed deer buck. Inside you will find information on white-tailed deer distribution, subspecies, description, deer teeth, deer aging, rare deer, antlers, tracks, vision, sense of smell, communication, body language, diet, life cycle, rattling antlers, scouting an area, food plots, seasonal changes, predators, diseases, record deer, venison cuts, and much more.
Texas contains around 670 species of birds. Some of them are with us year round, and some visit us at certain times of the year. It doesn't matter if you are a duck hunter, a bird watcher, or a nature enthusiast of any kind; if you need to know about ducks in North America, then this is the book for you. Every duck from the Atlantic to the Pacific and from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic is covered. I grew up duck hunting and have shared my favorite duck hunting story with you in this book. In addition, you will find a section on how to identify ducks, and then we get to every duck that can be seen in all of North America. For every duck species, you will see descriptions on: size, head and neck, eyes, bill, body, wingspan, wing feathers, tail, legs and feet, sounds, habitat, diet, behavior, nesting, dabbling or diving, interesting facts, similar species, and hunting tips. I share my tips on decoy spreads, calling techniques, and more.
Louisiana has an incredible abundance of snakes, and a few of the venomous ones are some of the most common in the state. With our abundance of wildlife and many warm days, everything a snake needs is here. There are around 50 species of snakes in Louisiana, and six of them are venomous, seven if you count the two species of coral snakes. Most snakes are not dangerous to humans, but some, like the copperhead, are among the most commonly found. Deaths from snake bites are rare, but pain, swelling, and other complications can result. Some of our snakes are small, worm like, and barely recognizable as snakes. Other snakes are very rare, secretive, or a subspecies only distinguishable from others by the trained eye.

Louisiana contains around 470 species of birds. Some of them are with us year round, and some visit us at certain times of the year. We won't try to cover them all, but we will look at some of the more familiar and interesting species. Some will be seasonal visitors and may be birds you associate with particular times of the year. Some birds are signs of spring, and some are signs of winter. Whatever your interest in birds, you will find this book to be a helpful resource for the birds you see in Louisiana. Now we won't look at the more aquatic birds like ducks and geese, even though they may be in your backyard. Many people who live in Louisiana do live on the water, but we will look at the ones you are more likely to see in the trees and on the grass. I am in northeast Louisiana, but most of these birds in this book can be seen all over the state. Some birds are only found in one half of the state, and that could be north vs south or east vs west. So, you may have to travel a short distance before some are seen. As we approach the Gulf of Mexico, many shore birds appear, but we will get to those in another book. In this book, you will find great color pictures, detailed descriptions, information on sounds, habitat, diet, behavior, migration, and more. I hope you will use this to identify the birds you see and enjoy those birds even more. Come take a look at some of the incredible wildflowers found in Louisiana. If you enjoy the outdoors, wildlife, plants, or the incredible wonders of nature, then this book is for you. Many of these wildflowers you have seen before, but others will be new. Some may currently be in your backyard, some you see driving down the road, and others in parks. No matter where you enjoy the great outdoors, wildflowers are everywhere. This book is not just filled with full color pictures, it also has a detailed description of each species, and much more. The size, bloom time, habitat, soil needs, sun exposure, and additional comments are made on all plants. This is also a great book that teaches you botany terms, if you want to learn them. Botany can be very confusing and frustrating when you have nothing but technical terms. This is enough to drive away most wildflower enthusiasts. This book is written in easy to understand English, with scientific botany terms in parenthesis along the way. This way, if you skip the terms in parenthesis, anyone can understand what they are reading. If you want, you can look at the scientific words in parenthesis, and learn them along the way at your own pace. As a teacher, I made this book so that anyone can understand it, but you can learn the terms of botany along the way, if you wish.
