    Der bedeutende Philosoph, Anthropologe und Soziologe Max Scheler (1874 - 1928), bekannt durch seine "Philosophische Anthropologie", widmet sich in dem hier vorliegenden Werk Problemen der Ethik und Religionsphilosophie, wobei er sich bemüht, "seinen geistigen Blick zu erheben über die Stürme und Gischte dieser Zeit in eine reinere Atmosphäre, und ihn zu richten auf das im Menschen, wodurch er Mensch ist, das heißt, wodurch er am Ewigen teil hat. Die Gnade, staunend und beglückt im Ewigen zu ruhen und das sonstige Leben nur aufzufassen als einen verwickelten Pfad zu diesem hohen Ziele, wird nur Wenigen zuteil. Der Verfasser will sich hier begnügen mit dem Minderen, zu zeigen, wie aus den Quellen des Geistes im Menschen, in denen Göttliches und Nurmenschliches zusammen strömt, der Forderung der Stunde zu genügen sei, so dass eine 'Vita nuova' denen wieder möglich werde, die am tief­sten an dieser Zeit gelitten und gekrankt haben." (Vorrede) Mit diesem Werk initiierte Scheler in der Weimarer Republik eine geistig-religiöse Erneuerungsbewegung in katholischer Tradition. Nachdruck der Originalausgabe aus dem Jahr 1921.
