The first story, "The Arrest of Arsène Lupin", was published on 15 July 1905. Lupin was featured in 17 novels and 39 novellas by Maurice Leblanc, with the novellas or short stories collected into book form for a total of 24 books. The number becomes 25 if the 1923 novel The Secret Tomb is counted: Lupin doesn't appear in it, but the main character Dorothée solves one of Arsène Lupin's four fabulous secrets. The character has also appeared in a number of books from other writers as well as numerous film, television, stage play, and comic book adaptations. Five authorized sequels were written in the 1970s by the celebrated mystery writing team of Boileau-Narcejac.

Maurice Marie Émile Leblanc (11 December 1864- 6 November 1941) was a French novelist and writer of short stories, known primarily as the creator of the fictional gentleman thief and detective Arsène Lupin, often described as a French counterpart to Arthur Conan Doyle's creation Sherlock Holmes. Leblanc was born in Rouen, Normandy, where he was educated at Lycée Pierre-Corneille. After studying in several countries and dropping out of law school, he settled in Paris and began to write fiction, both short crime stories and longer novels. The latter, heavily influenced by writers like Gustave Flaubert and Guy de Maupassant, were critically admired but had little commercial success. Leblanc was largely considered little more than a writer of short stories for various French periodicals until the first Arsène Lupin story appeared in a series of short stories that was serialized in the magazine Je sais tout., starting in No. 6, dated 15 July 1905. Clearly created at editorial request under the influence of and in reaction to the wildly successful Sherlock Holmes stories, the roguish and glamorous Lupin was a surprise success and Leblanc's fame and fortune beckoned. In total, Leblanc went on to write 21 Lupin novels or collections of short stories.

The Crystal Stopper is a mystery novel by Maurice Leblanc featuring the adventures of the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin. The novel appeared in serial form in the French newspaper Le Journal from September to November 1912 and was released as a novel subsequently. Maurice Leblanc was inspired by the infamous Panama scandals of 1892 and 1893. The novel borrows from Edgar Allan Poe's short story The Purloined Letter the idea of hiding an object in plain sight.Plot summary : During a burglary at the home of Deputy Daubrecq a crime is committed and two accomplices of Arsène Lupin are arrested by the police. One is guilty of the crime, the other innocent but both will be sentenced to death. Lupin seeks to deliver the victim of a miscarriage of justice, but struggles against Deputy Daubrecq's ruthless blackmailer, who has an incriminating document hidden in a crystal stopper.

Une frontière source de nombreux conflits....des tensions entre un père et son fils....et un évènement tragique qui survient sur la frontière... La frontière entre la France et l'Allemagne est ici le théâtre d'un roman historique chargé de suspens et de rebondissements, comme seul le créateur d'Arsène Lupin savait les écrire.Nous sommes en 1910. Quarante ans ont passé depuis la défaite de la France à Sedan et l'annexion de l'Alsace-Lorraine par l'Allemagne. Pourtant, Morestal, maire et conseiller de Saint-Elophe dans les Vosges, rêve toujours de revanche et examine chaque jour de chez lui la frontière avec l'Allemagne, prêt à en découdre. Lorsqu'une nuit le père Morestal disparaît en patrouillant à la frontière, l'incident prend rapidement un tour aussi dramatique qu'imprévu...La Frontière est un véritable roman prémonitoire car publié en 1911, il anticipe certains événements qui vont précipiter l'Europe dans la guerre de 1914/1918. Evidemment la déclaration de guerre n'est pas sujette à cet épisode, mais c'est la confrontation entre les esprits belliqueux et les pacifistes qui est ici analysée avec justesse par Maurice Leblanc.
