It was fall. And on the night of the big frost, Henry and his dog, Laird Angus McAngus, decided that they must explore the wild and untracked mountains near their house. Before winter set in.So the next morning they set out, with flags and banners as any good explorers would, and also rope. "You always need rope when climbing in the mountains - for safety," Henry said."I expect you to be home before dark," said Henry's father. And off they went. They picked their way through dangerous canyons and up steep cliffs, had their lunch, and then trouble began. It proved to be an exciting afternoon for Henry and Angus, much better than Henry's imagination could have made it.

Trained as an aviation mechanic in Germany in the 1910s, Buehl arrived in the United States in 1920, at a time when we were just inventing civilian uses for airplanes. Later, as a pilot, he was responsible for training thousands of fliers. His work, both in Europe and North America, directly helped to push back major frontiers, both physical and social. Buehl's work made possible the first flight into the stratosphere in an airplane, and other record-breaking events. As a co-pilot, he flew the first round trip transcontinental passenger flight in North America, he helped to survey the first New York to San Francisco airmail route, and he pioneered routes into Canada's far north. Later, as an owner of four civilian airports and then during World War II, he oversaw training for thousands of pilots.Buehl's most famous student was C. Alfred ("Chief") Anderson, the man who became the lead trainer at Tuskegee during World War II. In part because of Buehl's insistence that he be examined fairly, Anderson, who became known as the "Father of Black Aviation," was the first black pilot to earn the Air Transport License. There are few books that feature the development of civilian aviation rather than military aviation but this is one. Buehl's work and contributions are set into the context of his time, and the discussion points out its relevance to today's world. Technical information is explained in the text, so the book should be accessible to those who come from nontechnical backgrounds. 185 photographs and images illustrate the book. The majority of these are from Buehl's personal collection and many are rare. The book is extensively documented and explained, drawing on hundreds of sources, including books, broadcasts and recordings, documents, letters and manuscripts, interviews, journal articles, magazines, maps, newspaper articles, and websites.

In today's society we are inundated with comments, speeches, and pressures of being politically correct. What does that mean? What does this look like? And how are we as Christians supposed to balance what society says against what God's Word says. The Politically Correct Christian is a call to action for believers both young and old to take a stand and live life the way God intends, not how society demands.

[headline]Contends that the twentieth century novel's approach to character fundamentally shifted in response to contemporaneous theories of psychic connection Criticism of the novel routinely starts with the assumption that characters must think, develop and strive for self-fulfilment as individuals. This book challenges the paradigm that individualism is innate to the novel as a medium. It describes how major writers throughout the twentieth century - many convinced by the supposed findings of parapsychology - rejected the idea of the discrete character. Treating the self as porous, they offered novels structured around the development of communities and ideas rather than individuals. By focusing on D. H. Lawrence, Olaf Stapledon, Aldous Huxley and Doris Lessing, Mark Taylor demonstrates the need to broaden our approach to character when addressing the novel of the twentieth century and beyond. [bio]Mark Taylor is a specialist in twentieth century British literature and most recently worked as Assistant Professor in English Literature at HSE University, Moscow. His work has been published in Modern Fiction Studies, Mosaic and Science Fiction Studies.

Henry and his dog, Laird Angus McAngus, were fearless explorers. One morning they set out to find an ocean. They took along Henry's explorer's kit and a special new flag from an old shirt."It may be a long and dangerous trip," he told his mother as they left."I hope it won't take all day," she said."Who knows?" replied Henry. "It could take a year!"And it might have. For like many explorers of oceans, Henry and Angus were cast up on island with no escape. But good explorers are prepared for everything. And these two proved more than equal to the dangers they met, though there were some very tough moments.
