This story revolves around a family of mice, a donkey, a lamb, and a pigeon. Mr. Henry Brown is president of Mouse Transportation Company in Bethlehem of Judea. Harriet is his wife and they have a son and a daughter, Henry and Henrietta. Lucy the lamb and Bruno the donkey have been an integral part of the Brown's life for several years and they're all like family. However, Pedro the pigeon is a site to behold. He provides the antics and tests the patience of Mr. Brown. Yet Pedro is considered to be part of the family too, as he flies in and out of their lives. The extended family faces life's hardships, just like everyone else. But they happen to be living in a manger that God has chosen to give birth to his only son, Jesus. They deal with the intrigue of wicked King Herod, are amazed at the majestic magi, and are humbled by the lowly shepherds. After Jesus birth, the Brown's realize that there is a peace amongst them that they had never known. But with King Herod's evil intentions, will it last?
What would our world look like if we became passionate to love our spouse, passionate to raise our kids, passionate to help our friends, passionate to excel in our careers, passionate to serve our church and passionate to change our communities? A Greater Passion is based on the life and teachings of King Solomon, the world's most passionate man. He was unique in that everything he set his hand to he did with excellence and excess. With inspirational stories, laugh-out-loud humor, and at times biting sarcasm, this book will explore the often uncomfortable lessons which emerge from King Solomon's extraordinary life story. Every human has been called to a divine purpose, and reaching that full potential will ultimately come down to our willingness to align our passions with God's unique plan for our lives.
The Sermon on the Mount is the greatest sermon that has ever been preached. Revolutionary, unprecedented, and transformative, it was Jesus' summa, the comprehensive yet concise encapsulation of the Christian life. He holds up a mirror for us to see where we have failed to measure up and exposes why we make mistakes and yield to temptation, why we become bitter, sick and impoverished. But more importantly, He reveals how much better we can be, teaching us how to pray, behave righteously, overcome evil and find true happiness. In this unique treatment of the subject, Mark Hughes approaches the Sermon on the Mount thematically, illustrating how the life-changing concepts in Christ's greatest teaching can be applied to everyday life. It discloses the strikingly counterintuitive mysteries of the kingdom of heaven and how we can tap into little-known spiritual principles that will allow us to live a life that transcends the ordinary. This third book in the Greater series is not for the faint of heart. Those who desire to become fully committed followers of Christ will be challenged and inspired to live with a greater perspective as they discover the secrets to success from the Sermon on the Mount.
A systematic and research-based introduction to social work practice with older people.
''Essential reading for practitioners, educators and researchers within the general field of social work with older people.'' - From the foreword by Mark Lymbery, Associate Professor of Social Work, University of NottinghamThe reality of our ageing population means all social workers need to be confident in working with older people. Social workers are engaged in ongoing practice with older people in a variety of contexts, from hospitals, aged care assessment teams and mental health services to employment services, housing services and rehabilitation services.Older People, Ageing and Social Work draws on theoretical, research, policy and practice knowledge to inform contemporary practice with older people. Hughes and Heycox demonstrate that high level professional skills are required in this area as well as detailed knowledge of the issues affecting older people''s lives. They argue that practitioners need to take into account the social and emotional needs of the older people they work with, as well as the practical and administrative aspects of their roles. They emphasise understanding the diversity of the older population and enabling older people to make the most of their strengths and capacities.
