This book is a long-time project spanning 35 years, it contains 71 poems written between 1983 and 1989. The texts were after that taken from their archive once every decade, polished, often over the course of many weeks, to be then filed away again as revised versions - thereby being turned, over the years, into a kind of hyper-edit. This collection for the first time freezes the liquid of the manuscript into a more solid form, a 2017 snapshot of it. The result, metaphorically speaking, is something of a quilt stitched together using, as patches, disparate points in time.
"... This then, was the arena, and as if in agreement with what was taking place below, the gargoyle tops of the willows tittered with grim spectators - and the trees, bending their cliff faces away from the pond, turned into ravines studded with eyes. He stepped into something unexpectedly soft, and unexpectedly warm ..."This novel tells the tale of an enigmatic Valkyrie type, a strongman hermit, and a melancholic, broad-shouldered snob, all surreptitiously vying for power over a tropical, post-colonial town and its hinterland. Unravelling across three temporal layers: mid 19th, mid 20th, and late 20th century, this story, verging on the fantastic, is about ruthless trickery, extreme violence, and a commentary and meditation on the dark side of the dark side of human nature.Great caution is needed whenever female tarantulas, more powerful than the males of the species, are approached, if the supplicant is not to be killed and eaten. Added to this, Old Mother Tarantula has a system of tripping wires and nets spun across the world of her domain by which every movement is detected. Meaning: Everything is inescapably under her influence and happens because she wants it to happen.
This book, in chronological order, and in 27 essays, starting with Thales and ending with Augustine, examines every Ancient World thinker and philosophical school of note. These essays are based on the claim that for us Westerners every contemporary blueprint for living in and interpreting the world has ancient roots, and that these grids, invented mainly between 600 BCE and 400 CE, contain consequential errors that are not addressed. Aside from this, Philosophy is an elite martial art it is strongly suggested you learn. By role playing the devil's advocate in a game of thoughts the weaknesses of an adversary get revealed; it is a lot like chess in that it is not easy to beat you if you practise. The only other requirement for staying in the game is: not committing. That is why Pyrrho washes a pig. Once you turn partisan by taking a side and backing it - you're out, you lose. This book was written in the hope that, having read it, you will be a lot more difficult to trick at thought games.
