Ludwig Rellstab (1799-1860) war ein deutscher Journalist, Musikkritiker und Dichter. Zeitweilig benutzte er das Pseudonym Freimund Zuschauer. Mit seinem Roman Henriette oder die schöne Sängerin debütierte Rellstab 1826 auch als Schriftsteller. In diesem Werk verarbeitete er auf satirische Weise die Karriere der Sängerin Henriette Sontag. Da er dabei aber auch den britischen Gesandten in Berlin verspottete, wurde dieses Buch zum Politikum, was Rellstab mit zwölf Wochen Festungshaft auf der Spandauer Zitadelle büßen musste. Aus dem Buch: "Einige Augenblicke herrschte ein leises Schweigen. Werner stand auf und ging im Zimmer auf und nieder, wie wenn er mit einem großen Entschluß kämpfte. Endlich trat er wieder zu Henrietten. Sie trocknete mit ihrem Tuch die Thränen, und sah ihn, so freundlich sie vermochte, an. "Nun wissen Sie Alles; lassen wir das nun ruhen. Ist es nicht thöricht, daß wir einen so seltenen, vertraulichen Abend so trüben Betrachtungen widmen wollen? Sie hätten mir etwas vorlesen, oder mit mir Musik machen sollen. Ich habe manches, was ich sehr liebe, vielleicht seit Jahren nicht gesungen. Doch Sie sehen ja gar so ernst aus? Was ist Ihnen?" "Henriette," sprach Werner mit tief bewegter Stimme, "ich könnte Ihnen noch einen Ausweg zeigen, der Sie einem Stande entnähme, den Sie, wie ich überzeugt bin, nicht um seinetwillen erwählt haben. Ich weiß Jemand, der für Ihre Geschwister sorgen könnte, und Ihnen, wenn auch nur einen eingeschränkten, doch sicheren, ruhigen, der Weiblichkeit ganz angemessenen Wirkungskreis zu bieten vermöchte." Henriette sah ihn ahnend an; sein Händedruck wurde stärker; sie neigte sich ihm sanft entgegen; er rief heftig: "Wollen Sie die Meine seyn?" und sie sank an sein Herz."
