Subsequent to the book's publication, Bryant testified before a Senate subcommittee in defense of the revolution and then went on a nationwide speaking tour to encourage public support of Bolshevik policies.

It contains biographical sketches of 18 Socialist leaders from the countries Bryant visited and provides an interesting perspective on the effects of the Soviet revolution on twentieth-century Europe.
