Mit diesem Atlas wollen wir Medizinstudenten und Arzten eine Hilfe bei Diagnose und Behand- lung der in der Notaufnahme haufigen Verletzungs-bzw. Krankheitsphanomene an die Hand ge- ben. Oft ist die Notaufnahme gleichsam das Aushangeschild des Krankenhauses, dessen Ruf zu einem Groteil von der Qualitat der hier getroffenen medizinischen Manahmen abhangt. Da ein Bild unter Umstanden mehr erklart als viele Worte, schien uns die Zusammenstellung eines Farbatlas mit den entsprechenden Erlauterungen zur Primarversorgung am sinnvollsten. Viele Not- aufnahmestellen sind mit relativ unerfahrenen Arzten besetzt, die bei der Patientenversorgung mit medizinischen und daruber hinaus juristischen Schwierigkeiten fertig werden mussen. In neuerer Zeit ist eine Reihe exzellenter Arbeiten uber verschiedene Probleme in der Unfall-/Notfallmedizin erschienen, aber soweit wir wissen, enthalt keine dieser Publikationen sehr umfangliches Bildmate- rial. In dem vorliegenden Farbatlas stellen wir einige Probleme dar, mit denen die Notfallambulanz kon- frontiert wird, wobei wir den Schwerpunkt auf die Bebilderung gelegt und folglich keineswegs Voll- standigkeit angestrebt haben; insbesondere muten wir internistische und psychiatrische Notfalle aussparen. Wir illustrieren Behandlungsmethoden, die in Aberdeen ublich sind; wir sind uns im klaren, da an- dernorts andere Methoden mit gleich gutem Effekt angewendet werden -"e;es fuhren viele Wege nach Rom."e; Das Spektrum der mit Sicherheit und Effizienz in Notaufnahmen durchfuhrbaren Behandlungen variiert von Krankenhaus zu Krankenhaus, je nach den ortlichen (und personellen) Gegebenheiten. Einige der von uns angesprochenen Vorgehensweisen durften andernorts Spezialisten vorbehalten bleiben, wahrend manche Notfalle, die wir nicht erwahnt haben, in anderen Aufnahmen moglicher- weise routinemaig versorgt werden.
