When a door is opened, it's your choice to walk through it ... this is your invitation. Will this be yet another passing moment in time you missed out on what could've been life-changing? Throughout our lives, we will be nudged. But will you be aware of that nudge? ... And if so, what will you do about it? Is fear or self-doubt holding you back from opportunities in your life? These nudges are more than just coincidence, and it's up to us to take that next step and accept the invitation to walk through that opened door. This book will help you do that. What are you waiting for?
Benjamin Lakewood isn't ready to live in a new town. Especially in a Cul-de-Sac in a haunted suburban town with a paranormal past, but this is where young Ben and his famous writer of a father were sent to try and uncover the town's hidden secrets. Ben lived in New York his entire life and the only real paranormal activity he's ever experienced was only in his head after watching a horror movie or reading old horror magazines under his covers at night. This will all change when he steps out to explore his new town called Growling Graves. After meeting a boy his age, who shares the same interests as hockey and horror, the two discover strange things happening right behind Ben's new house in the adjoining Cul-de-Sac where a witch named Grenadine lives. Loud noises and green lights seem to appear out of nowhere and children go missing from time to time. When the captain of the local middle school's ice hockey team goes missing, the two boys gather up some help from Ben's father, an old diary and a few other kids from the hockey team to find out what happened to their friend. Graveyards and creepy old houses are just the beginning for these boys. Will these kids finally figure out the mysteries of Growling Graves or will they be sucked up into a vortex of other missing children?
All Michael wanted was a safe and loving home and family. By the age of ten, his father had died from a drug overdose, his older brother was someplace in the foster care system, and his mother was in prison. In and out of multiple foster homes, he was finally adopted by his "forever family." Instead, three weeks before his eleventh birthday, his autistic friend pulled Michael's limp body from the water. Did he drown by slipping on rocks and then fall, or was he murdered? Were the ravens right to warn him? Who was the dark shadow behind him? Why would anything this horrible befall such a young and innocent child? The author "assembles all the pieces of the puzzle," to unravel this "inspired by true events" mystery through the lens of Detective Russ Wyatt.

Who was J. Christy Wilson Jr.? Many have never heard his name, but Christy Wilson'slife had a ripple effect in modern missions. Read the first full biography of the humble, adventurous man of prayer who helped launch the Urbana missions conference, pioneeredministry in Afghanistan when others thought it impossible, mobilized hundreds of studentstoward world evangelization, and reintroduced the biblical idea of leveraging one'sprofession for the kingdom with the term "tentmaking." Riveting, uplifting, and frequentlyamusing, this book will challenge you to reconsider what is possible when we dare to yieldto Christ and his purposes in the world.
If you read one book this year about the future of Christianity, then choose this book. Five hundred years ago the Protestant Reformation claimed the Bible as the authoritative guide for Christian living ("Sola Scriptura!" Only Scripture!). In this groundbreaking work, Emily Swan and Ken Wilson claim the authority of the church is shifting back to where it should be: in Jesus (Solus Jesus!). As co-founders of Blue Ocean Faith, Swan and Wilson are pioneering what it means to be post-evangelical-post-Protestant, even-in a time when such re-imagining is desperately needed.Solus Jesus not only grapples with the authority question in Christianity, but also provides a massive re-think of traditional atonement theories. Leaning on the work of René Girard, they conclude that the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus together reveal a completely good, non-violent God who is on the side of the oppressed and scapegoated of this world. As a work of queer theology, the book is intersectional in its understanding of justice, and invites readers to reconsider our understanding of what it means to follow Jesus. This book is timely, to say the least. For Christians looking for guidance on how to address distressing issues of injustice; for help understanding how they can faithfully follow Jesus and love their neighbors as themselves; and for practices for how to experience the living Jesus and his Spirit of love-Solus Jesus is the book for you."Born in a cauldron of faith and pain, Solus Jesus: A Theology of Resistance is a highly original, deeply provocative first stab at a post-evangelical, post-'gay debate' pastoral theology," writes David P. Gushee, author of Changing Our Mind and Director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University. "Drawing from personal experience and those who have long carved out theologies far from power, Swan and Wilson show how Solus Jesus can open a portal to the divine communion that is possible between all people," writes Deborah Jian Lee, author of Rescuing Jesus: How People of Color, Women and Queer Christians are Reclaiming Evangelicalism."Ken and Emily's book is loving and courageous, compelling and convicting, scholarly and personal all at once. … This book held up a mirror to my heart, asking me to forsake my anxious need for certainty, to repent of all the rivalries that cripple me, and to rest again like a child, at the breast of a God in whose fierce and fearless love there is home for us all," writes the Rev. Susan K. Bock of Grace Episcopal Church in Mount Clemens, Michigan."Solus Jesus challenges us to see the authoritative Jesus in a fresh light, so that his life, message, death, and rising summon us to live in a new way as individuals and congregations," writes Brian D. McLaren, author of The Great Spiritual Migration."Around the world, tension and conflict are signaling a shift in our socio-political conditions. To remain relevant, Christianity must have a response to this moment. Grounding themselves in their lived experience, Ken and Emily are leaning into the conversation and offering a powerful response to the travails of our time. A must-read for Christians looking to discern where the Spirit is leading us in the 21st Century," writes Rev. Mariama White-Hammond, AME Church Planter, Boston.

"This is a breakthrough work coming from the heart of evangelical Christianity and offered into the heart of evangelical Christianity," writes David P. Gushee, the prolific Christian author and Director of the Center for Theology and Public Life at Mercer University. In describing this book, Gushee continues: "It is unlike other books that demand revision of traditional Christian sexual ethics but do so primarily by rejecting the authority of the Bible. That is not how evangelicals think, and it is not what Ken Wilson does here. Instead Wilson shows how God has led him on a journey toward a rethinking of what the fully authoritative and inspired Bible ought to be taken to mean in the life of the church today." "This is a remarkable and timely book," writes Tanya Luhrmann, an author about contemporary religious life and the Watkins University Professor in the Stanford Anthropology Department. "It is clear to an observer like me that evangelical Christianity is at a crossroad. ... That problem is the broad and widening gap between evangelical Christianity and its young. ... The book you hold is a passionate and courageous argument. Many people will not like it. But they should read it and weigh whether it is true, because more hangs on the argument than the fate of gay marriage within evangelical Christianity. At its heart, this book asks Christians to rethink what God and scripture may be saying about what it means to be a good and decent person. The answer to that question will shape what the church becomes in twenty years."Best-selling author and journalist Phyllis Tickle, an expert on religion widely quoted in news media, says of this book: "We Christians ...rarely think of our clergy as men and women who routinely spend agonizing hours and days and weeks pouring studiously over sacred texts in relentless, on-going attempts to penetrate the mysteries contained there, to discover their wisdom, their instruction, their relevance, and to consider the means and repercussions of their implementation within our here and now. ... This is midrash. ... And in the pages that follow, we have before us one of the most exquisite, painful, candid, brilliant pieces of contemporary Christian midrash that I have ever seen."
Prayer can be so much more than a simple conversation. It can be a wordless connection with God, a step beyond the boundary of the separated self. It can be a way to listen to the silence. And it can be learned. We can learn how to pray in ways we never thought possible. It doesn't take more effort; it takes more understanding.
