This was true for the Purple Gang and its Harbor Springs offshoot, Club Manitou. And, it was true for Motown and Club Ponytail, the latter using the discarded buildings of Club Manitou. This is the amazing story of how Harbor Springs served as a proving ground for the amazing groups supported by Motown Records to propel music through R&B and into the Rock and Roll era. The story is also a testament to the fortitude and bravery of the men and women escaping slavery and its aftermath to seek a better future for their children, and a chilling reminder of the obstacles those families had to and still must overcome today.
