A tender love story of a heroic soldier and his devoted wife. Nick Bonilla was a member of the 502nd PIR before it became part of the 101st Airborne Division. He trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, and traveled to Birmingham, Alabama, where he met and fell in love with a beautiful Scots-Irish girl, Opal Keith. They wrote of their love and their hopes for the future as Nick participated in exercises in Fort Bragg, The Carolina Maneuvers, The Tennessee Maneuvers, and as Nick trained in England for D-Day. Nick and Opal's letters describe the pleasures of a good meal and a new hat; they describe the joy of love and the agony of separation. Through everything, Nick and Opal are confident that the war will end in victory and that America will live in peace. They live in a community in which the war touches every part of American life and men and women at home and abroad are willing to do what it takes to win the war and restore peace to the world. .
