You cannot read one of the Apostle Paul''s epistles without noticing that on every page he constantly points us toward the necessity of walking in the Spirit. He never lets up. The idea that all Christians should live their lives, down to the smallest detail, in a Spirit-led manner pervades the New Testament to such an extent that it almost overwhelms all other topics. Remember that the men who wrote the scriptures were inspired by the Holy Spirit. That means that, effectively, the scriptures were written by God. It is easy then for us to conclude that God is deeply concerned that His people learn to walk in His Spirit on a daily basis. That poses a problem for God. His people need an avenue to learn how to do that spiritual walk. We need to learn how to hear His voice. His solution is, well, bizarre. First, He fills us with His Spirit, and then He gives (makes available) to us the gift of tongues. This book discusses how the very strangeness of this odd gift contributes to its effectiveness in helping God''s people learn to walk with Him.
Prophets seem to be popping up everywhere! This is to be expected since as we near the time of Jesus' second coming, He is restoring to the church ministries that seemed to disappear only a few short centuries after the church began. In recent years this restoration has been especially true of the office of the prophet. Do you know people who seem to be gifted in the prophetic ministry? What makes them tick? Why do they sometimes misbehave in the church? Especially concerning, is that they sometimes conflict with pastors! Somehow, two ministries that God intended to complement each other are instead at odds. That is not a good thing! Understanding the Prophetic Nature takes a look at the spiritual foundations from which the prophetically gifted person operates, explores the prophet's basic nature, delves into his special relationship with God, and seeks to bridge the divide that far too often stands between the pastor and the prophet. In the process, this book covers enriching topics such as the charismatic and motivational gifts of the Spirit as well as the fivefold ministry gifts and how they operate in the church. Giving glory to God throughout the text, using creative examples, endearing stories and relevant scriptures, the author connects the various themes of the book, creating an unforgettable read. John T. Reagan was raised on a small farm in the mountains of Southern Idaho. After graduating high school he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and went on to teach in the secondary public schools. He and his wife, Ruth, raised (and homeschooled) two awesome sons. Besides teaching school, John pastored two small rural churches in the Pacific Northwest as well as a church plant in Butte, Montana, where they currently reside.
