State Raised is the first part of a three-book series that spans the entire sixty-plus years of the life of the author Isaac E Guillen, JD. State Raised covers the years from when Isaac was a kid until he graduated from UC Berkeley and everything in between. Isaac grew up in the dangerous and deadly housing projects of the notorious barrio known as Casa Blanca. He joined a gang at eleven and spent the following years incarcerated in different California juvenile facilities, including the California Youth Authority's infamous Youth Training School, also known as "Gladiator School." State Raised will touch on Isaac's gang life and everything that came with it, including the drugs and the violence. It will also cover how Isaac finally pulled away from the gang, returning to school starting at Riverside Community College and East Los Angeles College, then graduating from the University of California at Berkeley and ending up at the UCLA School of Law.
