Der evangelisch-lutherische Neutestamentler Heinrich Weinel (1874 - 1936) will mit dem hier vorliegenden Werk eine Pneumatologie des Zeitalters nach Paulus geben. In Anlehnung an Hermann Gunkel, der "die Wirkungen der Geister neben die des Geistes gestellt und zur Erforschung ihrer Symptome benutzt hat", fasst Weinel "als 'Geistwirkungen' ... stets die Wirkungen des heiligen Geistes und die der Geister, der Engel wie der Dämonen, zusammen."
