Unter diesem Gesichtspunkt wird die Geschichte von Sanssouci hier geschildert. Ist in dem Schloss bis auf wenige Ausnahmen alles so erhalten geblieben wie es zu Friedrichs Zeiten gewesen, so hat der Garten von Sanssouci und die Umgebung im Laufe der Jahre einen starken Wandel durchgemacht, ja zum Teil ist das Bild so verändert, dass wir uns von dem alten Zustande nur schwer eine deutliche Vorstellung machen können. Vom König selbst stammt der Plan für die Anlage des Schlosses, sowie des Gartens und trägt so den Stempel seines Geistes. And it was here that he also died. While almost everything in the palace remains as it was in Frederick's time, with few exceptions, the garden of Sanssouci and the surrounding area have undergone significant changes over the years. In some cases, the transformation is so extensive that it is difficult for us to imagine the original state clearly.
