Jobi and the Magic Collar is a story narrated by an eight-year-old girl named Grace. While vacationing in Hawaii, Grace discovers a collar with an ancient coin tagged on it and asks her parents if she can buy it for her dog Jobi, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever. Her parents relent and purchase the collar. Upon returning home, Grace places the magic collar around Jobis neck. Suddenly, Jobi talks. No one believes Grace. Finally, Jobi talks to the entire family and imparts words of wisdom. The reader is left to wonder: can Jobi talk because of the collar, or could he talk all along?
