This collection of my previously published papers has been assembled for the convenience of readers who may wish to have in one place what I consider to be my most important articles on Buddhist ethics. Apart from its convenience, the collection could also serve as a reader accompanying a course on Buddhism ethics. The topics covered range across a wide field, from the theoretical nature of Buddhist ethics to human rights, violence, and issues in bioethics such as abortion and euthanasia.
Discusses contemporary issues in medical ethics such as abortion, embryo research and euthanasia, from a Buddhist perspective. Drawing on both ancient and modern sources, the book shows how Buddhist ethical principles can be applied to a range of bioethical problems.
Examines ethical data from early and later sources in an attempt to understand the theoretical nature of Buddhist ethics and clarify its role. This book rejects the view that ethics are only of limited or provisional validity.
This volume brings together the views of leading scholars on a range of controversial subjects including human rights, animal rights, ecology, abortion, euthanasia, and contemporary business practice.
