Montana Skies tells the story of Cash Roberts, his young wife, Sheena, and their daughter, Tishna, as they go about the business of life and work to make their ranch, the Double W, profitable as both a working ranch and a guest ranch. All the while, looming over the horizon are two ominous threats. One threat is that the father of Cash's former partner may sue Cash to get the sale of the ranch set aside on the grounds that Andy Walker was mentally unstable at the time of the sale. The second threat is the very real possibility that Andy Walker's partners in crime will send a hit man to Montana to eliminate Cash to make the point that it's not healthy to interfere with the business of the Sinaloa Drug Cartel. Into this mix is thrown Susie Walker, Cash's petulant granddaughter, whose mother, Hannah, has brought to Montana because she no longer has the patience to deal with a teen-aged holy terror. Author Clay Mercer presents another entertaining tale that deals with the intricacies of human relationships while exploring the everyday challenges inherent to a working cattle ranch. Says Mercer, "This was such a fun book to write. The Alabama Cowboy explored the culture clash between whites and the Crow Indian Nation as well as the generation gap extant in a May-December marriage that involves both cultures. In Montana Skies, when I began to add a petulant, self-entitled, spoiled teenager to the mix, I found the perfect storm composed of adolescent angst and the delusion of self-entitlement, combined with the disconnect between the values of Anglo-Saxon Americans and the Apsáalooke people, and the necessity to adjust one's attitude in order to be truly inclusive, rather than merely possess the false sense of inclusiveness that permeates so many aspects of society today."
Buffalo's Gamble tells the story of Buffalo Hunter, a foundling of life, raised by foster parents who loved him immensely, but couldn't find it in their hearts to formally adopt him. Out of high school, Buff, as he is known to his friends, joins the U.S. Army and, upon his discharge, begins work as a Sheriff's Deputy. Later, Buff goes to work as a bail bondsman/bounty hunter and stumbles up a human trafficking ring run by the Zetas Mexican drug cartel and the local chapter of the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. Buffalo Hunter is an honest man, straight out of the south Georgia pine forests surrounding Waycross, Georgia. He's as straight and honest as the pine trees he loves and his restlessness leads him further from home in search of that elusive thing that he feels will make his life complete. Susannah Jiminez is a wild child grown up, still indulging her risky impulses and still causing her older sister stress and strife by her actions. Once she meets her comeuppance, Susannah is a changed woman, but will she be able to cope with her new attitude on life when she collides head on with Buffalo? Buffalo's Gamble weaves a tale of the problems facing many communities today, whether they're in the industrialized areas or the rural towns of America: human trafficking, drugs, and lawlessness. Two young people brought together by events beyond their control have absolutely no chance at making a romance work. Or do they? Read this enchanting tale by author Clay Mercer in order to find out for sure.
The Alabama Cowboy tells the story of Cash Roberts, a former professional rodeo cowboy, a former world champion team roper, now a stockman, raising horses and cattle in South Alabama who suddenly finds himself grieving over the sudden demise of his wife of forty years. Desperate to survive and aware that he must think and plan for his future, Cash realizes that thinking and planning are impossible tasks when every aspect of his surroundings reminds him of Bobbi, the woman he has loved since the first moment they met. Cash's instinct tells him that he must go away by himself if he wants to regain any sense of purpose. He decides that his best option is a secluded guest ranch in Meagher County, Montana, as close to the middle of nowhere as he could get. Author Clay Mercer presents another compelling tale that deals with the intricacies of human relationships while exploring the everyday jobs inherent to a working cattle ranch. Yet, even in the beauty and unspoiled wilderness of rural Montana, Cash Roberts finds the intrigues and the crime, the vices and filth of modern society.
In Born Again Crazy, Author Clay Mercer offers another rollicking adventure that springs into being seemingly from thin air. His main characters, two brothers, hard-working young men, and the people they love, along with the brother's eccentric mother, Charlotte Rae fit together as neatly as any Yosegi Puzzle box and form a solid base on which to stand, the base of Sothern Culture, Tradition, and Pride.Unfortunately for Charlotte Rae, the culture, tradition, and pride that has seen her through the years has not provided her for the surprises about to unfold in her life. Sometimes it's difficult enough for Charlotte Rae to remember exactly where she left her glasses, or whether or not her pot-laced gummie candies are in the LV purse or the Coach. Dealing with the intricacies of today's modern lifestyle can often force this Southern Belle to take to her bed, in the old fashioned sense, to be attended by her maid, Lizella.Read about Charlotte Rae James and her sons, Traveler and Ticonderoga, and how they approach the simple act of being a family while complicated twists and turns in their own lives offer constant interruption.
In High Maintenance Crazy, Author Clay Mercer offers another look at the dysfunctional James Family, from Charlotte Rae, who just wants to relax, enjoy life, and get stoned with her fairies, to her sons Traveler and Ticonderoga, who want to enjoy their lives with their loved ones. Trav, the successful bail bondsman/bounty hunter, does his best to juggle parenting a set of active twins with his business and the stress of helping his wife, Kate, open her law practice. Ty, on the other hand, just wants to play the guitar in his band, The Ty Fighters, while managing his time between his guitar shop and his partner, Wil, a successful real estate attorney. Mother's Day weekend is the perfect time for the chaos of a family get together, especially when it occurs during the biggest crime wave to hit Macon, Georgia in the Twenty-First Century. Everyone, including Charlotte Rae, steps lively to avoid being caught up in the turmoil, but whether or not they're successful is anybody's guess. If you enjoyed Born Again Crazy, don't miss this action-packed sequel. However, High Maintenance Crazy is a complete story in its own right. Fans who enjoy Clay Mercer's talent for developing action packed plots with lots of twists and turns won't be disappointed.
In The Hysterical Society, author Clay Mercer explores the intricacies, customs, and culture of Southern small towns. This subject is familiar to anyone who has ever watched an episode of "The Andy Griffith Show" or read To Kill a Mockingbird. Indeed, it might be said that the subject has been discussed beyond the point of ad nauseum. However, The Hysterical Society looks at life in a small town in Georgia in the Twenty-First Century, in a place that has kept pace with the modern world of technology, yet managed to retain the social ceremony and milieu of days long gone in many parts of modern society. The Hysterical Society demonstrates that, while circumstances may change in a multitude of ways, human nature (including ambition, intrigue, and Machiavellian maneuvering) does not. How can a core group of a small town's highest society engage in such machinations, involve so many peripheral players, exhibit emotions and actions from the mature to the juvenile without losing their sanity? Fortunately the answer lies within the pages of The Hysterical Society. To quote the author, "In writing The Hysterical Society, I wanted to tell another chapter in the story of The South. Not necessarily Margaret Mitchell's "South," or Harper Lee's "South," or even, "The South" as brought to us by the late, great Lewis Grizzard. I wanted to tell the story of 'my' South: South Georgia, as it exists in the Twenty-First Century, populated by the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the pioneers who settled this wonderful place and made it our own."
Blue Sky World is an exciting story of four friends who part company as they leave high school, vowing to return and reunite on a regular basis to keep their friendship for each other as strong as it has been for all of their short lives. They quickly learn the hard truth that 'life' is what happens to them while they're making other plans and that 'life' is, after all, about how well they can adapt to 'Plan B.'Each member of the quartet finds success in life, whether it comes quickly and fades, or if it's earned by merit through determination and effort, of if they quite simply fall into it in a haphazard, almost accidental manner. Their adventures span four decades without the hoped for reunion occurring even once. When the youngest member of the group stumbles upon a drug smuggling and human trafficking ring, his discovery proves to have consequences that summon the other members of the group back home; albeit not for the happy get together they had planned as teenagers.Blue Sky World brings to the reader much more than an exciting story. Set in south Georgia, Blue Sky World presents the distinct cultural milieu that is the Deep South: the courtesies, the civility, the rituals, along with the passions, the greed, and quest for power that accompanies human beings wherever they go. For readers who have never had the opportunity to experience this culture, Blue Sky World offers, not just a taste to be sampled, but a good, old-fashioned, all you can eat buffet. Don't miss the opportunity to enjoy this book, one of author Clay Mercer's finest!
