Paper and figurative imagery evoke social and political issues. The audience engages via interactions with sculptural installations and related programing. The intention is to bring about far reaching social change. Using photographic documentation, Bleifer sought to preserve neighborhoods and architecture of historical and cultural significance.

Rusted metal juxtaposed with paper in Sandy Bleifer's art symbolizes the impact of outside forces on the human condition. Seemingly fragile papers are adhered to metal components for mutual support and durability. While everything deteriorates in time, it is surprising how strong the paper seems and how fragile the metal appears.

Beyond "collage", Bleifer's Constructed Silkscreens depict the essence of the Southwest landscape. Chemical and mechanical treatments applied to the silkscreen process replicate the surface markings and geological history of these ancient landscapes.

Bleifer's Walls series explores connections between the use of paper manipulation and treatment techniques and the nature of architectural elements. Layers of different materials depicting paint, stucco, wood, etc., like the strata of the earth, and are a kind of time capsule. The multiple layers, both obscure and reveal what lies beneath.
