In this seconf volume, we will cover in six subjects: 1) Psychology 2)Ethics 3)Sociology 4) Law 5) Politics 6) Education. Within each subject, we look through the lenses of logic, history, and statistics to compare and contrast the Christian worldview with the other major religions and ideologies prevalent in our world today.
History is either of extreme value, or it is of no value at all.We live in an era where history is often re-written for the purpose of achieving a personal or political agenda. Today' modern ideology states that the only thing we learn from history is that nothing can be learned from history. Those who hold to this viewpoint might simply say that history is random and unguided - just like evolution. The Christian worldview is quite the opposite. The Bible views all history through the eyes of God. All history, therefore, is HIS-story. Our God is the AUTHOR of all history. He has a plan and He is working it... through us!With this in mind, the foundation for our worldview of history is the Bible. Thus, we will begin by considering the proposition that the Bible is a SUPERNATURAL source of truth and knowledge; and as such, it is absolutely reliable as our basis for true history. As we investigate this principle, we will compare the reliability of the Bible alongside the most highly revered secular writings in all of history. How does the Bible stand up? ...We'll see.Next, we will consider the proposition that God is still as INVOLVED in the lives of His people today as He was in the times of the writing of the Bible. Our purpose in this class is to awaken the church to the reality that our lives are playing an active part in God's plan whether we acknowledge it or not; and on That Day when we meet Him face-to-face, we will be rewarded or reprimanded accordingly for our participation in His plan. Is our knowledge of history valuable and even vital? Yes! Can our knowledge of history protect us from repeating the same mistakes of generations past? Absolutely! Will that knowledge lead us to wiser choices for our future? You can count on it!Yes. HIS-story is worthy of our study!
Our philosophy guides all our decisions in life; and those choices we make will bring blessings or troubles as a result. Therefore, it would seem very wise to think through those ideas which make up our philosophy before we take serious steps in one direction or another. These ideas will determine our choices regarding:1.A future spouse2."Hooking up" before marriage3.Our future career4.Our work ethic5.Our priorities in life6.Our goals in life7.Our friendsEtc.Every worldview leads to its own end. Thus, considering the end before we begin can save much grief in the future. We will look at the competing philosophies of the major worldviews of today, and compare their "end" with each other. Let's see how they stand up in the light of critical questioning.
Volume One of the two-volume series of Christian worldview textbooks titled You Are What You Think. the series is designed for home-school families, Christian schools, and church study groups; and applicable for ages 13 through adult. In this first volume, we will cover in six subjects: 1) What is a Worldview? 2)History 3)Theology 4) Philosophy 5) Economics 6) Science. Within each subject, we look through the lenses of logic, history, and statistics to compare and contrast the Christian worldview with the other major religions and ideologies prevalent in our world today.
"I apprehend no danger to our country from a foreign foe. Our destruction, should it come at all, will be from another quarter - from the inattention of the people to the concerns of their government - from their carelessness and negligence." - Daniel Webster (1782-1852). What does the Bible say about Christian involvement in politics? What happens when Christians don't participate? Is the doctrine of "Separation of Church and State" supported by either the Constitution of the U.S. or the Bible? Are pastors required to be silent in the pulpit over political/social issues by either the State or the Bible? These questions and more will be addressed in this short excerpt from our "You Are What You Think" worldview textbook series. Let's put on our critical-thinking cap and consider what Scripture says rather than relying on the personal opinion of others.
In the majority of churches in America today, the doctrine of Grace is taught almost exclusively as the dominant characteristic of Christianity. The knowledge and the necessity of obeying the Law is downplayed and even ignored in many cases. And while it is absolutely true that we are saved by grace through faith and not by works, it is also fundamentally true that we are saved for good works - and all our good works are simply the results that proceed from our following and obeying the laws and commands of God. In other words, we are not saved by works; but once we are saved, we are now enabled to obey the law (which we could not do on our own before our salvation came), and we now love to obey His commands. As in the other classes, our first goal is to define the fundamental views of Biblical law, and contrast them with the ideas of the opposing worldviews. We will also look at the history of law in America in order to understand how and where our system became compromised. Once we understand the cause of the cracks in the wall, we can then see clearly where the foundations need repair, both in our own homes and then in the society around us.
Every worldview always begins with our view of God. -Is there a God, or does evolution guide all life? -If there is a God, what is He like? -What does He like? What doesn't He like? -What does He say is right? What does He say is wrong? -Is He personally involved in this world, or not? -Are we accountable to Him; and if so, to what degree?Even among those who claim to not believe in a god, it is impossible to live without one. Why? Because a god is simply defined as who or what occupies the central place of importance in your life. Thus, a god can be you, your car, your fashion statement, your favorite sports team. Or it can be something that impassions you, such as money, sex, politics, the environment, or the natural universe. God is whatever idea or entity we make the center of our life. We may worship one - or many - gods in our lives. In other words, we may place several "gods" on pedestals around which our lives revolve. Our theology - our view of god - determines our religion, even if we say we aren't religious. This is because a worldview is the same as an ideology or a religion: all are defined by the ideas we embrace and consider to be true and valuable. The question is, who or what is the center of your life? Who or what is your god? And will he/it lead you to prosper in life, or fail? Let's compare the worldviews/religions of the day and see which makes sense to live by - or not.
A proper moral and practical education of its citizens, from child to adult, is absolutely fundamental to the success of all individuals, families, churches, and cultures within any society. Consider the following quote from President George Washington, "The best means of forming a manly, virtuous, and happy people will be found in the right education of youth. Without this foundation, every other means, in my opinion, must fail." What does the Bible say about the educating of our children and society? And what does history reveal to us regarding the consequences of giving this vital responsibility over to the State? The key to fixing our broken world today in America - or anywhere else for that matter - is for Christians to regain control over the education of our children. It was the Christian churches that created the education system in early America that is responsible for its miraculous success from the founding until the early 1900s. But once we gave that responsibility over to the state, we began boiling like frogs in water, and we're almost cooked!
Why is our society in such a turmoil? What makes one society thrive, and another fail? What does the Bible say? We would submit to you that the MORAL ideas that a society embraces will determine its destiny. Those ideas make up the substance of the worldview - or religion - that a society has chosen to live by. In the beginning of the founding of America, for example, the original founders of the culture chose to follow the moral code which proceeds from the Judeo-Christian religion as found in the Bible. This resulted in the most prosperous, generous, creative, and powerful nation the world had ever seen. However, beginning in the early years of the 19th century, the dominant higher learning institutions in America (Harvard, Yale, Columbia, etc.) began turning the nation away from those Biblical roots; and thus, we now live in a post-Christian nation that has embraced the religion (or worldview) of Humanism. This has turned society on its head. As a nation, America has abandoned what had been the moral backbone of the society - the Bible. Therefore, what is right is now called wrong, and what was always considered wrong is now deemed right. As a result, all society is rapidly devolving. What can we do to turn this runaway train around? That is what we will investigate in this powerful study on sociology.
