The book presents a rich and heart-warming portrait of an exceptional single father and his love for his seven-year-old daughter. The story is about the struggle of the young doctor trying his best to take care of his seven-year-old daughter on his own while working in the second biggest Covid-19 unit in the country. While working in the hospital, he had a close encounter with a Corona patient, and he was isolated for a couple of weeks, leaving his daughter 'home alone' helpless. A young nurse comes to his rescue in looking after the girl during his quarantine period. The daughter and the nurse become blossom friends, to the extent that she calls the nurse 'mum'. After being a bachelor for four years after the loss of his wife, he becomes involved romantically with the young nurse. Then there was another twist to the story, breaking the heart of the young nurse who loved both (father & daughter) so much. He had to take the difficult decision, in the interest of his daughter, whom he protected with his life.
The aim of this book is to give an insight about modern concepts of wound care and an up to date account of wound management. Every medical student, junior doctor, nurse practitioner, wound care specialist at various level of medical education need to know the fundamentals of wound care. I believe that This will be a very useful book to be kept in all wound care departments. I have provided essential information, without over burdening the medical student and all wound care practitioners. Hopefully based on the information in this book, healthcare facilities countrywide can have a unified and consistent approach to wound care and conduct and disseminate local research, for all healthcare practitioners to follow. It is of paramount importance that we do not cause harm to the healing wound and to the peri-wound skin by our treatment. It is also vital that we have a holistic approach to wound management by paying attention to the patient's overall condition and his or her social background. I hope we can update this book from time to time with the help of my colleagues in the field to keep up with modern research and developments. The readers are requested to send suggestions for improvement of the book which will be incorporated in future prints. Please communicate any comments, shortcomings etc. to me at athulawithanage@hotmail.co.uk I would like to thank Dr. Nelun de Silva, Consultant Microbiologist at Colombo East Teaching Hospital for editing the book. I am grateful to Dr. Chaminda Kumara and Dr. Sahani Croos for collecting data and photographs from our practice at CETH. Finally I like to thank my wife Nelum for typing the book.
