Having overcome problems with dyslexia and bipolar disorder, she completed a BA (Hons) English Literature Degree at Leeds Beckett University, where her dissertation was on George Orwell's fears of Totalitarian rule. She later completed an MA in Creative Writing at Sheffield Hallam University.
