The region is therefore a significant global influencer.An "island" is a piece of land surrounded by water. By definition, an island is also an isolated ecosystem that is dependent on the waters that surrounds it. The diversity of islands makes them ideal for reviews such as this. Every one is different and has evolved from a specific set of natural environmental and human interactions. Based on these specific differences, "islands" were chosen for these reviews into "sustainability" because of their unique properties. These islands are affected by both local and global trends, particularly in regard to environment, economics and heritage / culture. Too often, their particular needs have not been widely considered - especially in regard to the smaller islands. Many of these islands are also significantly impacted by remoteness and tourism (overuse). In recent times, a number of the past issues have emerged as "present issues" with issues relating to race and environment being openly discussed and debated. Global issues are affecting these areas - the same areas many of us go to for the enjoyment of the natural beauty, the peace and harmony.
