Der schwedische Sprachwissenschaftler und Neogrammarier Adolf Noreen (1854 - 1925) gibt in vorliegendem Werk eine Einführung in die urgermanische Lautlehre "mit besonderer Rücksicht auf die nordischen Sprachen zum Gebrauch bei akademischen Vorlesungen." (Untertitel) Nachdruck der Originalausgabe aus dem Jahr 1894.

Die Grammatiken der Hauptreihe A sind als Referenzgrammatiken"e; angelegt, die meist nur die Laut- und Formenlehre, teils aber auch die Syntax behandeln.
