The acclaimed Vietnam Journal series from Don Lomax, nominated for a Harvey Award, is collected and presented as a series of graphic novels. Vietnam Journal is a look at the Vietnam War through the eyes of a war journalist, Scott 'Journal' Neithammer, as he chronicles the lives and events of soldiers on the front line during the Vietnam War. Creator Don Lomax based Vietnam Journal on his experiences on his tour of duty in Vietnam in the mid 1960's. In BOOK SEVEN, the United States military decides to launch an offensive into the A Shau Valley near the Laotian border. This has been a long time staging area that the Viet Cong have used for years to send men and supplies into South Vietnam from the enemy's sanctuary in Laos. Meanwhile 'Journal' becomes fascinated with the story of a prisoner of war who belonged to a small tribe that has lived in the A Shau Valley for centuries. They have no sense of country, politics or ideology, only for their local people, but they are dragged anyhow into a war they couldn't even comprehend. And as the battle at A Shau Valley continues even though Nixon has taken over as President of the United States, 'Journal, always trying to stay as impartial as possible, can't contain his rage when he finds the Viet Cong receiving medical supplies from United States protesters back home against the war. Also included in BOOK SEVEN is the collected Hamburger Hill serial series that appeared in Gallery Magazine. Picked by Entertainment Weekly as "a graphic novel you should own" and recommended by the Military History Book Club. "Lomax bases his fictional work on his real experiences in Vietnam in 1966, with powerful results. It is Lomax's concern for average soldiers that, in the end, makes his work significant." - Publishers Weekly. "Even today, VIETNAM JOURNAL is one of the most gritty and brutally honest war stories ever published." - Brian Cronin, Comic Book Resources. "A powerful collection of stories and history of the Vietnam War, created by a veteran of both the war and of war comics." - Douglas P. Dave, School Library Journal.
The Battle of the Bulge...the Watch on the Rhine...the Ardennes Offensive...whatever name is used for this epic battle, it involved over a million men and was the largest land battle that the U.S. Army was involved in during World War II. Witness To War is fictional account of a female news correspondent who finds herself embedded with a US platoon on the front lines during this incredible saga of the last ditch effort by the German Army to turn the tide of WWII. It is a tale that strikes a true chord in attempting to deal with the nature and the horror of warfare.

This sci-fi tale explores evolving standards of beauty and perfection and how those choices could affect the physical and mental well being of a human race improved through genetic tampering. The second story, "Seductions," uses pencil art by Oz artist Bill Bryan and unique computer-over-pencils coloring from Beatty to explore mating ritual psychology, seduction history, the barroom scene and, yes, vampires! The "hero" of Seductions is caught in a maddening cycle, waking 10 years after each feeding. The world changes around him and only two things remain, his desire for blood and a yearning for his long lost love! Far from a typical romance, the hero must decide: heart's desire or dinner? "Jazz: Cool Birth" is a murder mystery in a 1957 jazz club, with illustrations inspired by '50s album cover design. Integrated typography gives this comic book story a unique look. A Xeric Grant recipient! From the martini crowd at the uptown piano bars to the whiskey cats at downtown's Skylarks, piano man Dean Fontessa had thought he'd seen it all. An evocative, elegiac love letter to New York City and the immigrant culture that continues to make it the most original and influential city in the world. As the nineteenth century gave way to the twentieth, a surge of Jewish immigrants to New York City reshaped indelibly not only the culture of the metropolis but of America itself. Struggling to assimilate to a new world while reconciling it to the old one they had left behind, these men and women shared their most private hopes and fears in a series of letters submitted to "A Bintel Brief"—Yiddish for "A Bundle of Letters"—the enormously popular, deeply affecting and often hilarious advice column of the newspaper The Forward.Conceived by Abraham Cahan, editor of The Forward, who answered every letter himself, A Bintel Brief transformed the fortunes of the paper, rapidly making it the most widely read Yiddish-language newspaper in the world. The letters that flooded into A Bintel Brief spoke with unparalleled immediacy to the daily heartbreaks and comedies of their bewildered writers' new lives, capturing the hope, isolation and confusion of assimilation, from intergenerational family politics and judgmental neighbors to crises of faith, unrequited love, runaway husbands, soul-crushing poverty and the difficulty of building an entirely new life from scratch.Drawn from these letters—selected and adapted by Liana Finck and brought to life in her singularly expressive illustrations that combine Art Spiegelman's deft emotionality and the magical spirit of Marc Chagall—A Bintel Brief is a wonderful panorama of a world and its people who, though long gone, are startlingly like ourselves. It is also a platonic love story of sorts between Abraham Cahan and Liana, as they engage in a bittersweet dialogue that explores the pleasures and perils of nostalgia, even as it affirms the necessary forward movement of life.
