Alois Derso (1888-1964) and Emery Kelen (1896-1978) were remarkable cartoonists who became internationally renowned, particularly for their depictions in the 1920s of efforts to build a better world following the establishment of the League of Nations; of the rise of fascism in the thirties; and of the world cooperation through the United Nations that emerged in the forties. Their sequence of cartoons, imbued with humour, wit, gentle satire, artistry and vision, captures the Zeitgeist of a period of history that resonates today. Surprisingly, no comprehensive account of their work and lives has been published before.  The authors analyse and discuss the extraordinary political insights revealed in the cartoons, which contribute to our understanding of those years. Drawing on original research, this overdue book delves into all aspects of Derso and Kelen's careers, including the unusual, if not unique, technical nature of their artistic collaboration and Kelen's additional gifts as a writer. It will inform the non-expert of the history of the time and the often overlooked role of cartoons as historical evidence. So memorable and informative are the images, it will also be a useful supplement to the literature on modern history, international relations and art.

Comics for Choice is an anthology of comics about abortion. As this fundamental reproductive right continues to be stigmatized and jeopardized, over sixty artists and writers have created comics that boldly share their own experiences, and educate readers on the history of abortion, current political struggles, activism, and more. Lawyers, activists, medical professionals, historians, and abortion fund volunteers have teamed up with cartoonists and illustrators to share their knowledge in accessible comics form. The stories in Comics for Choice showcase a wide range of abortion experiences from a diverse array of voices: trans voices, older voices, activist voices--relatable voices. With passionate pen strokes, artists share highly personal, moving, and even funny stories that defy stigma and stereotypes. From the days of illegal abortion services, to nationwide legalization, to modern-day struggles of clinic closures and unequal access, contributors give an entertaining primer on the history of abortion in America, and how far we still have to go. Readers will be encouraged to get involved--standing up for abortion rights, fighting abortion stigma, making links between intersecting forms of oppression, and learning about reproductive justice. "In a time when reproductive rights are under attack, Comics for Choice is a truthful narration of what often gets lost--the history of abortion and the lived experiences of women and people who need abortion." - Cecile Richards, Former President of Planned ParenthoodComics for Choice contains comics from exciting cartoonists like Sophia Foster-Dimino (Sex Fantasy), Leah Hayes (Not Funny Ha-Ha), Archie Bongiovanni (A Quick & Easy Guide to They/Them Pronouns, Grease Bats), Jennifer Camper (Rude Girls and Dangerous Women), Ally Shwed (Sex Bomb Strikes Again) and Kat Fajardo (Gringa!, La Raza Anthology), and reproductive justice scholars like Rickie Solinger, (Reproductive Politics: What Everyone Needs to Know) Renee Bracey Sherman (Program Director, We Testify), and Dr. Cynthia Greenlee (Senior Editor, Rewire). This updated edition includes a new cover and additional comics that address the changing landscape of abortion rights.

The fantastic collection of artworks by the globally active digital artist wataboku is now available! This book is a collection of artworks by wataboku, the digital artist who continues attracting attention both in Japan and worldwide. The artist's illustrations of beautiful, yet somewhat shadowy, shojo girls, rendered with a watercolor touch, have been acclaimed on social media not only in Japan but across the world. This book comprehensively covers wataboku's work, from works presented at solo exhibitions around the world to more recent works. The title VSI means "VS (versus)" "I (myself)," and comes from the wakaboku's desire to "highlight the importance of feelings I had as a teenager, which forms the basis of my work. Or to put it bluntly, to focus on a time when I was 'edgy.'" This book offers a complete archive that condenses five years of evolution since wataboku's first art book was released. Even as the environment around them changed, wataboku continuously protected this sense of self, which has been the central pillar and source of creation for the artist's work.
