New York Times BestsellerFocusing on the Cowardly Lion, the third in the Wicked Years series which started with Wicked, the multimillion-copy bestseller and basis for the Tony Award-winning hit musical, soon to be a major motion picture starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. In A Lion Among Men Gregory Maguire continues to flesh out the world of Oz, seen this time through the eyes of the Cowardly Lion--remembered from Wicked as a tiny cub defended by Elphaba. While civil war looms in Oz, an ancient and tetchy oracle named Yackle prepares for death. Before she can return to dust, however, the Cowardly Lion--an enigmatic figure named Brrr--arrives in search of information about Elphaba Thropp, the Wicked Witch of the West. As payment, Yackle who hovered on the sidelines of Elphaba's life, demands some answers of her own.Abandoned as a cub, Brrr's earliest memories are only gluey hazes. But his path from infancy in the Great Gillikin Forest is no Yellow Brick Road. Seeking to redress an early mistake, he tumbles through a swamp of ghosts, becomes implicated in a massacre of trolls, and falls in love with a Cat princess. Sidestepping the laws that oppress talking Animals, Brrr cannily avoids a jail sentence by agreeing to serve as a lackey to the warmongering Emperor of Oz.A Lion Among Men traces a battle of wits between adversaries distracted by the armies approaching on either side of them. What does the Lion know of the whereabouts of the Witch's boy, Liir? What can Yackle reveal about the auguries of the Clock of the Time Dragon? Is destiny ever arbitrary? Can those tarnished by infamy escape their sobriquets--cowardly, wicked, brainless, criminally earnest--to claim their own histories, to live honorably within their own skins before they're skinned alive?
New York Times BestsellerGregory Maguire's stunning saga set in the world of Oz comes full circle in the unforgettable conclusion to the Wicked Years series which started with Wicked, the multimillion-copy bestseller and basis for the Tony Award-winning hit musical, soon to be a major motion picture starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.Bestselling author Gregory Maguire's remarkable series, The Wicked Years, comes full circle with this, his fourth and final excursion across a darker, richer, more complex landscape of "the magical land of Oz." Out of Oz brilliantly reimagines L. Frank Baum's world over the rainbow as wracked with social unrest--placing Glinda the good witch under house arrest and having the Cowardly Lion on the lam from the law as the Emerald City prepares to make war on Munchkinland. Amid all this chaos, Elphaba's granddaughter, the tiny green baby born at the close of Son of a Witch, has come of age. Now Rain will take up her broom in an Oz wracked by war. Even Dorothy makes a triumphant return in Maguire's magnificent Oz finale--tying up every loose green end of the series he began with his classic Wicked, the basis for the smash hit Broadway musical.
The New York Times bestselling sequel to Wicked, the multimillion-copy bestseller and basis for the Tony Award-winning hit musical, soon to be a major motion picture starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. When a Witch dies--not as a crone, withered and incapable, but as a woman in her prime, at the height of her passion and prowess--too much is left unsaid. What might have happened had Elphaba lived? Of her campaigns in defense of the Animals, of her appetite for justice, of her talent for magic itself, what good might have come? If every death is a tragedy, the death of a woman in her prime keenly bereaves the whole world.Gregory Maguire returns to the world of Wicked and the land of Oz to follow the story of Liir, the adolescent boy left hiding in the shadows of the castle when Dorothy did in the Witch.A decade after the Witch has melted away, the young man Liir is discovered bruised, comatose, and left for dead in a gully. Shattered in spirit as well as in form, he is tended by the mysterious Candle, a foundling in her own right, until failed campaigns of his childhood bear late, unexpected fruit.Liir is only one part of the world that Elphaba left behind. As a boy hardly in his teens, he is asked to help the needy in ways in which he may be unskilled. Is he Elphaba's son? Has he power of his own? Can he liberate Princess Nastoya into a dignified death? Can he locate his supposed half-sister, Nor, last seen in shackles in the Wizard's protection? Can he survive in an Oz little improved since the death of the Wicked Witch of the West? Can he learn to fly?In Son of a Witch, Gregory Maguire suggests that the magic we locate in distant, improbable places like Oz is no greater than the magic inherent in any hard life lived fully, son of a witch or no.
The New York Times bestseller and basis for the Tony Award-winning hit musical, soon to be a major motion picture starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande. With millions of copies in print around the world, Gregory Maguire's Wicked is established not only as a commentary on our time but as a novel to revisit for years to come. Wicked relishes the inspired inventions of L. Frank Baum's 1900 novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, while playing sleight of hand with our collective memories of the 1939 MGM film starring Margaret Hamilton (and Judy Garland). In this fast-paced, fantastically real, and supremely entertaining novel, Maguire has populated the largely unknown world of Oz with the power of his own imagination. Years before Dorothy and her dog crash-land, another little girl makes her presence known in Oz. This girl, Elphaba, is born with emerald-green skin--no easy burden in a land as mean and poor as Oz, where superstition and magic are not strong enough to explain or overcome the natural disasters of flood and famine. Still, Elphaba is smart, and by the time she enters Shiz University, she becomes a member of a charmed circle of Oz's most promising young citizens. But Elphaba's Oz is no utopia. The Wizard's secret police are everywhere. Animals--those creatures with voices, souls, and minds--are threatened with exile. Young Elphaba, green and wild and misunderstood, is determined to protect the Animals--even if it means combating the mysterious Wizard, even if it means risking her single chance at romance. Ever wiser in guilt and sorrow, she can find herself grateful when the world declares her a witch. And she can even make herself glad for that young girl from Kansas. Recognized as an iconoclastic tour de force on its initial publication, the novel has inspired the blockbuster musical of the same name--one of the longest-running plays in Broadway history. Popular, indeed. But while the novel's distant cousins hail from the traditions of magical realism, mythopoeic fantasy, and sprawling nineteenth-century sagas of moral urgency, Maguire's Wicked is as unique as its green-skinned witch.

The Earth was dying. The sudden solar flares were compromising living conditions. Scientists had predicted that within a few decades life on the planet would no longer be possible. The Government had arranged for the evacuation of Earth to transfer all humans to newly colonized worlds where they could find refuge. The Great Exodus lasted for two years with large ships boarding all those who had gathered at collection centers. But not everyone left the planet.A large group of humans, who for various reasons had not been able to leave, organized themselves near the bay of Vancouver where an underground city was built, sheltered from solar radiation. Their hope was to find some ships abandoned by the Government to leave the planet before the catastrophe. Three inexplicable murders shook the community already troubled by the climate events, and Mortimer, a former Security agent, took on the investigation to uncover the culprit. After the trilogy of The Phoenix Saga, Oriano Galvanini dedicates this mystery thriller to fans of both genres, staying true to his favorite vein of adventure in science fiction.
In my previous book, "Emergency Landing - Based on a True Story", I described my experience of the events that took place during my stay in Oregon and on the flight back to Houston. On that return flight, one of the passengers, Carlos Pérez, suffered an epileptic seizure halfway through the journey. The nurse and I helped him to ensure he received prompt medical attention. Given the conditions presented by Carlos and by the nurse's professional criteria, the only viable option was to carry out an emergency landing in Oklahoma City, to urgently take him to a hospital. After the book was published, many people asked me about Carlos's fate, his recovery, and his current situation. I started an investigation to find out what had happened to Carlos. However, I did not obtain any information that would allow me to contact him. This led me to spend time remembering our experience and exploring how I could imaginatively recreate Carlos's life so that everyone could enjoy his story. In this new book, I will reveal details about his origin, his arrival in the United States, his activities in the country, and how he ended up in a hospital in Oklahoma City. I will also share information about his life in the present. Get ready to immerse yourself in the fascinating and surprising story of Carlos Pérez. I hope you enjoy his story!

Strap in and hold on tight - because this adventure is about to take you on a rollercoaster journey of twists, turns, and jaw-dropping revelations! JM Leitch, author of The Zul Enigma, said this: "Run Like Hell doesn't fall into the weighty adventure sci-fi type of novel I usually choose - it is also a light-hearted futuristic romance - but having said that it's beefed up with good science and is a well constructed and well-written book. The main characters are charming and original and dazzle the reader with their quick and witty repartee. Set 100 years in the future, the book opens with the wedding of two female friends, Kendra (Ken) Foster-Briggs exotic actress and film producer, Aiyana Cassidy (Cass) half Irish/half Native American graduate from MIT with a Doctorate in Optical Engineering, and Derek James, a man of independent means. The only problem is instead of the Reverend marrying them he pulls a gun on them, forcing them to Run Like Hell. Surviving a second attack the two ladies leave Derek behind and after working out Cass is the target, Ken arranges new identities and a safe place for them both to lay low until they can sort out the mess they find themselves in. I won't give away any more of the plot but I will say this is a fast-paced page-turner and worthy of the 5 stars I have given it." NOTE: This volume can be purchased as part of The Cassidy Chronicles, which is an omnibus edition of Run Like Hell, A Deadly Quest, and A Desperate Gambit. If you already have The Cassidy Chronicles, you do not need to purchase this book separately to have the full series. But thank you for considering it!
