How does our humanity limit us, andhow do we get free from habitual ways of thinking and acting? All Is Chosen is based on a series of eight paintings painted over 10 years, each representing an archetypal image of what it means to be a human being. It is also inspired by this time period in our human history. We are currently confronted on a global scalewith the possibility of making choices from love as opposed to making choices from fear. What we mostly see through our media is the stronghold of fearinfluencing choices that are taking a tremendous toll bothon our humanity as well as on our climate and planet.Fear is strong, yet Love is stronger. As more of us continue choosing from Love, we can radically changeany previous negative historical trajectory to one ofhealing, possibility, and peace.

Nostalgia is a blessing and a curse in one breath. To love and be loved in return - not every lover is fortunate enough to experience it. Ria Kid in her book of verses, The Muse of Manifestations, wants to leave no doubt in the mind of the person she loves that what she felt, what at one point they both may have felt, was real. Her poetry gleams as an ode to her muse, her words the very manifestations of her unrequited emotions and longing. All her efforts to forget has been in vain; so, she would rather remember.

Through her poetry and prose, Trisha Doherty explores tough themes as a way to work through difficult - but decidedly human - emotions.

In the Inferno is part of the continuum starting from the poetry collection Under the Steel Yoke right through to the collection entitled Along the Way. The out of control veld fire is raging in homes and threatens to devour whole nations. The simple yet incisive poems address issues such as corruption, misrule, tyranny and despotism. Some of the poems address the wars in Gaza and Ukraine. The turmoil in the DRC also receives attention. The poems would be a damp squib if the writer did not address the Mugabe legacy and its impact on this country, Zimbabwe, which the late President of Tanzania Julius Mwalimu Nyerere called 'a jewel? The poet takes a keen interest in world events but does not allow this to overshadow what he observes daily in his country of birth, Zimbabwe.

Ethiopian Aliens, being my first anthology to be published, is a book based on African integrity, origins, value, culture and also love. It was inspired by a lot of different emotions on different levels, different times. After doing a little digging I have always been a fan of our own African history and as I went through searching I also noticed that Africans have always been a subject to being inferior to other races and considered Aliens which I later discovered that to some extent we have accepted as the norm. We became subject to wanting to look more like the other races. Though this book is not based on racism, it's just to enlighten and brings out the beauty in being whatever skin colour. As you will notice I do speak on a lot of issues that affect us as a people. Most of these pieces were written in-between the years 2018 to 2023; It is a compilation of what transpired in between those years, some being written from my own experiences.- Clesirdia Nzorozwa

My poems are oftentimes born from some great sadness. They usually speak of things that have been lost. They try to catch the soul and trap the memory -To tell the story...true...and-what-the cost.I rhyme because it helps me to remember.I rhyme so I must measure every word.I rhyme to help those lost things live forever. In rhyming, lilting, steeped-in-meaning verse.Words can prevail past flesh or thoughts or empires, And words can make souls live beyond the grave. So Man will ever know the wonder of them -The courage that they showed...the joy they gave.

  • - Dark meditations
    av Saul Sangster

DARK MEDITATIONS Four sequences of themed poems exploring darkness - especially the sorts of darkness that so often affect and afflict much of humanity.True - there are many aspects of the human race that are wonderful, generous, creative and capable of love, but what of the other side? What is darkness of the soul? Where does it come from? How does it reveal itself? If you want poems of love and light, or even dark poems that have happy endings, you won't find them here. These are aspects of the darkness at the heart of mankind as seen through my eyes. (And I'll brook no complaint about my use of 'man' . . . whoever heard of 'personkind?')

  • av F S Withers

qUasars & quInine is a collection of poems ranging from bite-sized to long-winded, and it is inherently queer and inherently unapologetic. In their debut collection, F.S. Withers explores themes such as social and political identity, movement and stagnance, nostalgia, and the present moment. The prose dances between lighthearted and heavyhearted, and always returns to a leitmotif of love directed outward and inward. With its gilded imagery and starry-eyed appreciation for life in all its color and complexity, qUasars & quInine invites the reader to sit down and stay for a while.

All poets have an obligation to bear witness to the age in which they live. They also have a duty to rejuvenate the traditions of their art and renovate its forms. The epic is an expression of the ideology of empire. In the modern world it has been eclipsed by the popularity of the novel and the epic dimensions of cinematic art. "The Boy Who Remembered Everything" is a lyrical odyssey set against the backdrop of our contemporary understanding of the world. Part one, 'Coming of Age in the Universe', begins in the deep Darwinian past and ends in Einstein's surreal space-time continuum. From a prehistoric hell-scape comparable to Dante's chronicle of the underworld, we watch as human life emerges and great civilizations flourish, culminating in a century of holocaust and world war. Contemporary poetry and its traditional pretensions too often ignore our looming existential dilemma. After passage through a wormhole into a parallel universe, part two, 'Digest of a Soul' begins. This companion piece is a romantic celebration of the world of nature---a vision of harmony printed as developmental milestones in a personal history---from the playful fantasies of childhood to a transcendent vision of the numinous void.

This collection of Poems/Songs were written between 1998 and 2024 with most coming from 2008 onwards when I moved to Christchurch. This was a time in my life when I had to do some really hard yards and had a lot of very difficult times which I would like to personally thank my friends, family and the nurses at the local psychiatric hospitals for getting me through. In 2021 I started to attend my local Church and my life began to change exponentially. Praise God!

The Making retells the universe through science and story, tracing the arc of the cosmos from its origin to the present. The poem recounts the early transformations of the universe, the emergence and development of life on Earth, and the broad span of human history, pairing each new phase with a story--stories drawn from Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, as well as from North American Indigenous traditions, Greek myth, and international creation tales and folktales. Coaxing science and history into evocative language while braiding them with tales, the poem sets a human perspective on the pageant of the cosmos and provides an unprecedented synthesis of evolutionary history with literary and religious imagination. The Making is a lyrical and pluralistic creation story of epic scope--a story that illuminates our time of planetary crisis and imagines ways we might press forward.

  • av Dawid Juraszek

Nothing is more difficult than making sense of the loss of meaning, yet nothing is more urgently necessary. For the forests burn and the wetlands dry up, and myth and poetry, twins born from their mysteries, fade into obscurity. Without them, and the dreams they are made of, we are captured by carbon, and the prose of inevitability replaces the poetry of hope. Raising the standard of poetry and myth, this collection once more makes sense of the loss of meaning, resists their fading away, and reminds us that, in saving our woods and wetlands, we save our stories and ourselves, too.-Sascha Engel, Plant AnarchyDawid Juraszek bends the ancient world of mythology into a singularity of climate change-not through mythological giants like Gilgamesh, Antigone, or Aphrodite-but in the poem "Ishtar Descending to the Underworld," a poetic response to a modern world: "Through the first gate / gone were her wetlands // through the second / her old-growth forests" and then go to free-flowing rivers, coral reefs, grasslands, and glaciers. Still, what might seem like background in this mythological world is foreground in "Had She Asked Him," the seven-part series that balances humanity's reality in the immediate presence of carbon capture.-Sandra Fluck, The Write LaunchPoems rattle off the page in short, unfettered staccato bursts. The words bleed into each other and offer the reader a philosophical pointillism where each phrase and fractured sentence are cumulative, building layers of meaning forcing the reader to modify their understanding. Totally fascinating.-Jack Caradoc, Dreich

The Northport Village Poetry Path was born as a dream. A dream to bring poetry off the pages of books and out of the confines of reading rooms. A dream to bring poetry into the open air for the entire Village to enjoy. And it was clear this dream was shared. When Northport Arts Coalition put out the call, the Long Island poetry community responded whole-heartedly with fifty-six submissions. Twelve were chosen to be displayed for the path's inaugural year and three were named honorable mentions to be included in this book. The art that accompanies them was created especially for each poem by Long Island artists.Wherever you are when you read these poems, let your imagination take you to the beautiful harborside park where they're displayed. Let yourself savor them as you stroll slowly from one to the next to the next, shaded by centuries old trees and serenaded by seabirds. Let them take you to new places and fill you with new thoughts.

  • - Nahuatl Poems

    249,-

From award-winning author, editor, and translator Ilan Stavans, comes a one-of-kind translation of the timeless, poignant poetry of the legendary Aztec ruler, Nezahualcoyotl.A king, a warrior, and a poet, Nezahualcoyotl was a revolutionary leader far ahead of his time. Born in 1402, Nezahualcoyotl-meaning 'hungry coyote' in the Uto-Aztecan language of Nahuatl-led the city-state of Texcoco through its "age of enlightenment." He is remembered for having challenged long held beliefs, encouraged the development of modern ideas of education and morality, and cultivated critical alliances. His four decade reign is regarded as one of the most transformative and prosperous periods of the Aztec empire. Today, he is a legend in Mexico, seen as a mysterious, powerful, anticolonial figure. This epic collection of songs and poems, full of grief and anguish, was originally written collectively by Nezahualcoyotl and members of his court in Nahuatl. Stunningly retold by renowned writer, editor, and critic Ilan Stavans, these seventeen powerful poems are now made available to English readers for the very first time. Lamentations of Nezahualcoyotl: Nahuatl Poems crafts a remarkable portrait of the life of the man who went from a young warrior in exile to one of the most important figures in Aztec history. Sorrowful and unforgettable, it is destined to become a classic.

Return Against the Flow by Susana Praver-Pérez is a memoir-in-verse that travels back and forth between Puerto Rico and its diaspora, much like the island's pattern of circular migration over the years. Reflecting her personal journey across geographies and languages, Susana's poems move between English and Spanish, and capture the tempo of ambient sounds, such as drumbeats of bomba, or a black-plumed chango chirping at dawn. She unflinchingly explores the daily struggles Puerto Rico faces, while exuberantly celebrating the island's culture, its peoples, and the concept of "return". This is a voyage via words the reader will remember long after turning the last page.

Like the Roman poet Virgil, John Secor guides readers through landscapes past and present, exotic and quotidian, personal and political. Each voice is distinct and compelling. • av Richard Chess
    179,-

A house on a leaf is a precarious and fanciful construction, yet it gracefully covers the leaves of Richard Chess's third book of poetry, Third Temple. Painted by Edita Pollaková, a child caught in the dislocation and catastrophe of the Holocaust, this watercolor preserves an audacious, innocent vision of structure and renewal against all odds. It is just such structure and renewal that Chess's poems seek as they sing, shout, whisper, accuse, tease, twist, and mourn. Animal sacrifice and blood libel, the Zohar and Solomon ibn Gabirol and Tevye set them going. Languages, too, for some of the poems include Hebrew as they sing of the scattering of kingdoms, the dispelling of names, and the "aleph bet" of being. No ordinary temple, this book. Let it challenge and delight you with language lessons that won't leave.
