Les doutes que nous rencontrons dans notre vie nous amènent à nous questionner sur notre place dans la société et dans la vie des autres. Mais sommes-nous réellement seuls à nous interroger sur notre condition ? Question que je vous pose, à vous.

"I consider myself a multi-dimensional writer. I write poetry and short stories. Writing is a release; it is self-liberation. I feel free to write down any idea I want because I can. I feel like I'm able to express myself through every emotion and experience I've personally walked through or witnessed. I believe writing can save people because it saved me over and over again. I've gained courage since the my first book of poetry, Who Hurt You Sis? was released four years ago. Cowries and Spiked Tea is a continuation of my walk through this wide world. Poetry has shown me that I'm not alone and has taught me to push through and remain consistent even when you're afraid of the view of others! Walk through your truth and say what you have to say."

Someone has to love your ghost. If the darkness wins and I die, I would rather not be remembered. Burn all my clothes, poems and photographs, for we were once a story where the beautiful and the broken collided. So there's no need to love each other's ghosts, and we don't have to give solitude and misery a reason to celebrate. As soon as I leave my body, I want to be erased from everybody's mind and heart, no memories, nothing.

She is art takes the reader through the journey of some of the most hidden and intimate parts of womanhood. You are lovable, don't ever base your self worth in the hands of someone who doesn't see the value or beauty within you. You are heard, you are seen, you are everything you've ever needed. She is art, you are art, and you are beautiful.

  • - A collection of poems on mental illness
    av Elliot Msindo
    173,-

'I fight me' is a collection of inspiring poems which I wrote after observing how mental illness affects a reasonable number of people in our society. Many people may not be aware that mental illness is heavily present in our societies. Mental health foundation states that 'It is estimated that 1 in 6 people in the past week experienced a mental health problem.' People are afraid to speak up when they are going through a difficult patch and this goes on to affect all faculties of their life. 'I fight me' highlights problems that are common among people who suffer from mental illness in our societies. These include drug abuse, drug addiction, violence, eating problems, being short tempered among other problems. The poems include depression, stress, drug abuse, anxiety and bipolar. Many people are affected by these things but they may not be aware that they are. The first step of getting help is the realization that one has a problem. Mental illness faces a lot of stigma which affects efforts of organisations working in that field. Many people are afraid to speak up because they start worrying about what other people will say. People should be willing to help those affected because neglecting them worsens the situation. Interaction with such people helps to divert their attention from the problems they are facing. We should always remember that no one is immune from mental illness because it comes through many different ways like loss of jobs, financial problems, diseases, loss of loved ones and even substance misuse. Support is required so that we can all tackle mental illness. There are many causes of mental illness bearing in mind our different backgrounds, upbringing and life experiences. So many people have had painful life experiences and they would have gone through a lot. It only takes a listening ear and a helping hand to encourage such people to shape a better tomorrow. They do not need to feel unwanted because this may worsen the whole situation. They should be encouraged to see a reason to live. Words can destroy and words can build. The book encourages people to use their energy to build others instead of destroying them, to open and embrace instead of pushing away, to understand first rather than condemning. 'I fight me' is a title which shows how people affected by mental illness fight to free themselves from the grip of this illness. The book also portrays different scenarios to help readers understand mental illness. There are some who have lost hope but they require strong people to give them eyes to view the world differently. Hope is not always lost by choice but by circumstances. People around someone suffering from mental illness may help build or destroy hope. It is difficult to understand mental illness if we have not been affected by it but if we take time to support those affected, we will understand how bad a battle with oneself is.

In Meet Me Out There, trees don't threaten to topple in a storm; instead they "bend to bless you" in Shutta Crum's sunny new chapbook. Her poems are delightful excursions into language as well as life.-Enid Shomer, Florida Lifetime Achievement Award for Writing, 2013Shutta invites the reader to join her on a passage. Like a line from her first poem, Meet Me Out There, this collection of poems strings together "wet footprints trailing through fields," each an authentic, still-moist impression leading to another. She conjures out of Africa our "First Mother," from maples thrumming cicadas, from within "where pools are memory deep," and colors with "impatient greens and heart-deep browns." She shows us how sublime an ache can be, and the constancy of love in a grandfather's dimming. She is playful and reverent about feelings, especially in "One Winter's Day." Shutta does not shy from grief, but also does not wallow in it. She finds the meaningful objects and people that bring living to a place of understanding and heart. She doesn't paint a hopeful dawn, but Shutta offers her hand through her poetry as both solace and encouragement. I get this book. You should too.-Mark Andrew James Terry, Editor, Of Poets & Poetry

  • av Scott Hightower
    227,-

Imperative to Spare is the first installment of a trilogy in which Hightower seeks to explore diplomacies of the heart. He puts an altruistic human face on suffering and awe. The poetic voice is that of the lone surviving wanderer in the landscape of grief and loss-missives from bereavement in the wasteland. By design, nothing is meant to last forever. Love is the most powerful force in the universe as we can always create more of it.The poems sample diverse literary styles. His work is a mix of Callimachus, Rumi, William Blake, Robert Browning, Walt Whitman, Hart Crane, H.D., T.S. Eliot, and Anne Sexton.Poems shift in tone from the casual familiar to the literary (ekphrastic guide, voices of biblical or pagan characters, shepherds, etc.). In emotional content there are discants of Gilgamesh mourning Enkidu, Achilles mourning Patroclus, Job wrinkling his rhetoric to his Lord, David mourning Saul and Jonathan, Alexander mourning Hephaestion, the white cue ball disappearing into the darkness of a pool table pocket. The manuscript is divided into four sections. It evokes images ranging from Ariadne, Sampson, The Good Samaritan, New Testament Mary in her flight to Egypt, to Scarlett O'Hara and Christopher Isherwood's George Falconer in A Single Man: "If it's going to be a world with no time for sentiment, it's not a world that I want to live in." "In his poem 'The Gaze, ' Hightower writes of a man on the street: "I want // to lie down, / curl next to him / without perlustration, / without exchanging / a glace // or a word.' Fortunately for us readers, in Imperative to Spare, he has done quite the opposite: Hightower crafts a perlustration of grief that is unequivocally personal, profound, and with few peers. While his mastery of heightened language remains clear, it's when Hightower's language arrives unadorned that we discern the total vulnerability of the poet in mourning: as in the middle of 'The World is Full of Beautiful Things, ' where the speaker's gratitude for a beloved's absence is reminiscent of the great Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva's plaintive utterances; or in 'Gashapon, ' describing a candy vending machine, he writes, 'The sign reads: 'The light inside / is broken, but I still work.' // 'Me, too, vending machine. / Me, too...' Hightower's discrete moments with objects, memories of 'another set of eyes, ' and a world unencumbered by his private pain elucidates the multivalence of a beloved's death. And all the little darlings-ourselves included-are better off knowing it."-Daniel W. K. Lee, author of Anatomy of Want
