We've all had those moments, in the wee hours of the night, just south of midnight, when unbidden thoughts and emotions come to the fore. We think of past events, that somehow, we can't let go of, and they play with us, offering no rest or resolution. We think of the future and what it may offer. We think of the present, creating multiple scenarios to get to that precarious future. Building castles in the mind, of the mind, on foundations of dark mist, desire, fear, pain, and, maybe, some hope. The poems in this volume speak to these moments - a product of such nights. Some also call poems like this, observational poetry. Poems that offer up descriptors of the world and our journey through it. Whatever they are called, as long as they call to you, perhaps late at night, when sleep seems like an elusive dream. As with all books in the Life Series, each book is standalone, and can be read in any order.
Confetti: A Life In VerseConfetti is a work of poetry and fiction, a moving portrait of a complicated man coming to terms with life in the 21st century. Boyhood, first loves, work, marriage, children, extended family, faith, and the difficulties of aging, caregiving, and accepting death. Both an emotional journey of one man's soul and a beautiful love story. Although its form is that of an autobiography, it is not one. Characters, incidents and chronology are the products of the author's imagination. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events is purely coincidental. The Author's InspirationsThe author's inspirations include: The interior life; the maturing of the spiritual and psychological self; Theodore Roethke's idea that every line is its own poem; creating sparks by juxtaposing words; working from grids of favorite words; the deepening of meaning through repetition; dream states; ordering poems into a chronological representation of a life; fractured narratives with flipping perspectives; the simplicity and immediacy of the couplet; the various impacts of the short line; and the flow experience produced by space on the page.David Paul MeslerDavid Paul Mesler is a classically trained jazz musician and educator known for his 45 albums on ECR, his 15 major Hollywood films, his performances for 1000s of events including for 4 sitting US Presidents, leading the jazz band at Benaroya Hall for 10 years, his 100s of original art songs and chamber works, and his 26 years of teaching at Seattle Central and North Seattle Colleges. Sometimes you don't need much. Sometimes the softest, simplest idea can evoke sentiments enough to elevate you to believing in the emotions that are easy to lose sight of. That's all I hope to bring to people... that small fire. In this book you'll find poems of love, struggle, and heartbreak from the perspective of a partner, a mother, and self-reflection. You'll read small thoughts and concepts dear to my heart, each one carefully curated in the silence of the night when inspiration is prominent and reflection comes naturally, all leading to the title chosen, Whispers After Dark.
Hello, here is my third and maybe final book of poetry for now. I am sure I will continue to write when and if inspiration strikes me. And God-willing I will have enough to perhaps write a fourth book. There is so much around us each and every day in which to find inspiration. There is grace and beauty, love and peace, hope and compassion. If we all took the time to be a little nicer, smile a little more, and spread the message of compassion the world would be so much brighter, and we would be so much happier. This book is more about my spiritual awakening, and my newfound increase in my connection to God and spirit, than anything else. I do divert from that topic just a little. Through the trials and tribulations of my life, I was always able to see that shred of hope to hold on to, the light that was, although dim at times, still there inside me. Sometimes now when I write, I feel like it's not coming from me, but rather from something outside of me....almost like I am watching it write itself. I do hope you enjoy this book, Stay well. Namaste!
This sequel to 'A Coventry Tale ... woven in poetry' is a work of fiction, set in and around the 1450s. Following on from the previous book, characters like Bela, Maud, Jocelin and Addy continue to interact with each other as new storylines unfold. Some new characters have arrived on the scene - they're all after the alchemist ... and he's only interested in one thing - gold! The Golden Thread is beautifully illustrated by Steve Milner, helping once more to bring the poetry to life.

This was a long time coming. My next poetry book after Iraq and Back: A Journey with Depression. Here I wrote a collection of thoughts entailing my continued depression, dealing with middle aged life, without a family, and a life that I am still unsure what I am supposed to do. So these are my stream of consciousness, exposed for the world to see. Hello Earth.
