Plenty of things have changed since her last book. The World has changed as sometimes stops moving. More people passed away like the grain of sand on the beach. And other things in life. But pain does bring the rain and brings more inspiration than she could gain. That means there's more poetry to share.Poetry is about expressing and sharing it with the world so they don't feel alone. For me, that's what poetry is about.
HAFEZ FOR THE TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY Selected Ghazals of Hafez and Ghazals inspired by them by his Translator Paul Smith. The ghazal, spiritual love poems or mystical blues in a strict rhyming-structure, are still very popular in the Indian Sub-continent and the Middle-East of today. It is the oldest of all forms of poetry. The greatest Master of the ghazal was Hafez of Shiraz (1320-1392). This is a completely revised edition of a poetic translation of hundreds of Hafez's masterpieces from his Divan. The spiritual and historical and human content is here in understandable, beautiful poetry: the correct rhyme-structure has been achieved, without intruding, in readable English for the first time. Each poem is followed by a ghazal by his translator for many years Paul Smith, using the first couplets of Hafez's ghazals for inspiration, truly relevant for this age, as do remain those of Hafez. Gertrude Bell: "It is as if his mental Eye, endowed with wonderful acuteness of vision, had penetrated into those provinces of thought which we of a later age were destined to inhabit." In the Introduction Hafez's life story is told in greater detail than anywhere else; his spirituality is explored, the form and function and influence of his poetry on the east & west .Included are notes to many poems, glossary, selected bibliography and two appendixes. Meher Baba: "There is no equal to Hafiz in poetry. He was a Perfect Master ... His Divan is the best book in the world because it engenders feelings which ultimately lead to illumination." THE THREE GREATEST FEMALE SUFI PERSIAN POETS Mahsati, Jahan & Makhfi. Translation & Introduction Paul Smith. MAHSATI (1098-1185) lived in Ganjeh when Sultan Sanjar reigned. She was a court, dervish (Sufi) and ribald poet. She knew Nizami (she is said to have been buried in his mausoleum) and Omar Khayyam... and like Omar composed only in the ruba'i form and must be considered not only a master of that form but also to have helped to revolutionize it. She was famous and also infamous for her truly liberated behaviour. She was an influence on perhaps Iran's greatest female poet JAHAN Khatun. She was the daughter of the king of one of Shiraz's most turbulent times (14th century) Masud Shah; pupil and lifelong friend of the world's greatest mystical, lyric poet, Hafiz of Shiraz; imprisoned for twenty years while her daughter mysteriously died; open-minded and scandalous... the beautiful, petite princess who abdicated her royalty twice; one of Iran's greatest mystical lyric poets...whose Divan is four times the size of Hafiz's. MAKHFI (1638-1702) pen-name meaning 'concealed', was Zeb-un-Nissa the beautiful and talented oldest daughter of the strict Muslim Emperor of India, Aurangzeb. She was imprisoned for 20 years for her Sufi views and conspiring with a brother against him. Her over 550 ghazals and ruba'is in Persian are deep, spiritual and at times truly heartbreaking. Complete biographies on all poets. Selected Bibliographies. Correct forms and meaning are preserved in all poems. Large Print (16pt) & Large Format (8" x 10") Paperback 597 pages. RUBA'IYAT FOR THE SPIRITUAL MASTER MEHER BABA by Paul Smith. The ruba'i (quatrain in the west) is an ancient form of poetry of four lines in which usually the first, second and fourth lines rhyme and sometimes with the radif (refrain) after the rhyme words... all four rhyme. Each is a separate poem in itself. It should be eloquent, spontaneous and ingenious. Every major and most minor poet of Persia and Turkey and India composed at some times in the ruba'i form, Omar Khayyam being the most famous. The poems are mostly about human and divine love, separation and union, longing and bliss. Paul Smith has translated all the major Sufi and other poets of this form and has composed many of his own in English over the past 50 years dedicated to his spiritual Master Meher Baba since 1965. Here is a large selection of his work (486 poems) that are at once modern and reflecting all the great Sufi ruba'i poets of the past. The Introduction includes chapters on the author's life and work and on the life & works of Meher Baba and on this popular form of inspirational poetry. Selected Bibliography. Large Print (16pt) & Large Format (8" x 10") Edition. Pages 536. Comments on Paul Smith's Translation of Hafiz's 'Divan'. DOHAS (Wise Sayings) An Anthology of Rhyming Couplets from Sufi, Bhakti, Christian Mystic & other Poets. Translation & Introduction Paul Smith. Love Will Kill You is a poetry book which highlights the drama that comes along with falling in love. It is a rollercoaster ride that gets straight to your heart and ignites all of your senses. It is emotional, intense, deep, profound, and explosive. In the book, I didn't sugarcoat anything that I went through in my past. It is a straightforward and raw account of decisions that I have made, dilemmas which I had, and break-ups which I faced. Love Will Kill You is a time capsule of experiences that I believe everyone has at some point in their life. Unfortunately, it is common to write about the nice aspects of love without considering everything that goes along with it. This book will urge you into considering the depth of love.
