"Blackout indicates a caesura from which to start again, and from the first to the last word, it makes no concessions. It speaks to us of what is missing and of human hell on earth, but also of what is still possible to return to that human being who is trampled upon every day and in whom we would like, despite everything, to still believe."--Fabia Ghenzovich, winner of the Guido Gozzano (2009), and the Charles Darwin Scientific Poetry Prize (2014) "We travel with Anna Lombardo in the dark; nothing is more poetic than the night that consoles between sighs that fade away while the words get stuck, and the unsaid things stagnate. To talk about emptiness, about the horrors with, and without, war, about the love that remains, perhaps, we need a borrowed language, a traffic of words that if you let them do, they will not only do what they want, they will do what they must. But words carry the scars of our actions, and when the darkness ends, and with it, the hours counted on the fingers (after having buried even the sound of the soul), what will happen to us, or rather, what will not happen to us?"--Brigidina Gentile, winner of Hypatia poetry prize (2011) and Mimosa prize for fiction (2015)

  • av P Sulon Dolo

The main aim of this poetry is to express some of the feelings that were created by the deadly Liberian civil crisis that led many dead, homeless and mentally disturbed, socially, morally, and economically imbalanced. The result of these conditions set heavy grief and frustration in my heart as the author of this book. Most of the poems have emotional tones because of the mood and personal experiences of the writer. However, these poems are intended to bring consolation and joy in the minds of its readers in order to let out bad feelings. I am aware that negative feeling, which includes anger, contempt, guilt and fear, must be minimized, if not eradicated in our daily lives.

  • - There is Hope
    av Brenda Jean Hefty
    208 - 259,-

Brenda Jean was a Second World War baby, who would not see her father until she was nearly two years old. She grew up the older of three children and was a good example for her sister and brother. She was a gifted child and loved all things artistic and she strove to become a part of that world, in some way. Brenda did attempt artistic endeavors, however, her capricious father forbid any exuberance on her part, even when she was applauded for her efforts to show others her talents. In time Brenda withdrew any thought of showing off her talent and eventually held back any thought of asking for praise. Although, over time she found a solution through writing and most specifically poetry.Brendas poetry spans three decades and, for most was kept stowed away among her personal affects, only to be found by me, after she had passed away in April 2023.Brendas amazing talent in creating poetry will now receive the applause it deserves, since her ability and skill is now available for all to enjoy.

  • av Ronnie Jones
    194 - 287,-

This book is a direct reflection of what Christ did for me five years ago. I'm ashamed to say for many years I claimed to be a Christian while my actions said just the opposite. I was even called out once. I was asked if I was a Christian and I responded yes. Someone that knew me was standing there. He laughed and said "sure you are". My heart attack six years ago had me thinking more about God but I was still holding on to the worldly things that we are told to refrain from. One day I'm watching television and I come across a pastor that grabbed my attention. In hind sight God got my attention that day. This sermon had a huge impact on me. I didn't really have a relationship with Christ. I hadn't truly surrendered my life to him. Since that day I've been a different person. That's when I finally found my love for Jesus. Out of nowhere I start writing these poems. It was as if God was using my hand to write down words he was putting in my heart. After much encouragement, I had my poems published. It is my desire to glorify my Lord through this work. I hope you enjoy these poems, more so I hope they inspire you in your walk with Jesus.

  • av Karon L Floyd
    194 - 287,-

The book is about transitions in life, whether that transition is good, bad, or just the next stage in life. This book, shown through my poems, also shows the transition of my writing. These poems are a collective of poems that I wrote between 2010 - 2023. You'll find some light and fun while others you may find dark, spiritual and troublesome. You'll recognize the transition in the poems as well as motivation and hope. The Waters Edge is a question on decisions about those transitions and cleansing waters. It is meant to be a window into a life, any life, your life if you relate. You will find the magic of birth, the naivety of youth and adolescence, the maturity of adulthood, the uncertainty and/or loneliness approaching the end of life.

A Little World Made Cunningly brings together the author's best poems written over the past ten years in free-form verse and traditional forms, including the sonnet. Many of the poems rely on classroom experiences garnered from a teaching career of fifty-seven years. Family memories account for other poems, and the author's reactions to artistic creations, especially paintings and ceramics, inspired many of the pieces. An undercurrent of religious sensibility is rarely far from the poems, but creed and doctrine never comprise subject matter. This is a collection for multiple readers, an audience not far from ordinary experience.

  • - A Collection of Poetry
    av N Jeffrey Blankenship
    252,-

Throughout life, everyone has opportunities to experience some form and depth of love and romance, and most people have experienced, at one time or another, a broken heart. Love, Romance, and the Broken Heart is intended to be a deep expression of feelings that emanate from the heart of every human being and is also intended to illustrate the fragility of love in its human form. Love, Romance, and the Broken Heart is an outpouring of the soul, a probing of the mind, and an exploration of human expression. The poems in this book were the culmination of the author's observations of the deep emotional crevasses folks traverse when going through a divorce, from the moment love begins through the broken hearts which often bring an end to that relationship. Many poems in this book explore the vast array of deep thoughts and introspection that accompany that experience.

  • - Poems of Pain and Purpose
    av Leslie Corbly
    180,-

Each epoch of history brings stories of pain, triumph, oppression, freedom, purpose, suffering, grief, and joy. Silent Suffering explores the depths of the human experience through an exploration of the present moment, a time in which postmodern, progressive ideas reign as the societal benchmark for goodness, justice, beauty, and--ironically--truth. This poetic critique of progressive values invites the reader to doubt progressive dogma by critiquing the foundations of the progressive approach to morality and justice. The combination of social and cultural commentary pairs with traditional elements of classical poetry to immerse readers and listeners in the experience of modern nonconformists who silently suffer in the shadows of culture's ever evolving progressive doctrinal creeds. Throughout this critique, readers and listeners are called to ponder the mystery of the human experience, the call to faith in a godless era, and the eternal need for hope amidst the senseless suffering humanity inflicts upon itself.

Dive into "The Last Supper," a collection of poems that boldly traverse the boundaries between the Sacred and the Profane, offering a unique perspective at the forbidden crossroads where they meet. In these verses, there is no room for the easily offended or those who merely skim the surface; you must be willing to explore the nuanced shades of gray. Author [Harvey] makes no apologies for the absence of roses and limericks; this is a collection for mature readers. These poems are not suitable for children, little old ladies, or Church Mothers, yet the church itself weaves through these verses, a powerful presence. Within the lines, you may detect echoes of the 80s, a time when Ronald Reagan's legacy continued to shape the world. The corporate world remains a realm where greed is king, and the haunting presence of AIDS steals away the young and vibrant. Among these poems, the title piece, "The Last Supper," encapsulates the poignant recollection of a young man's final moments, as he softly utters, "A sip of water please / A little string beans / Wait now, you're rushing me." As you embark on this poetic journey, remember not to rush through these verses. Take your time and allow the words to resonate, for within "The Last Supper," you will uncover a unique tapestry of human experiences, emotions, and a glimpse into the enduring spirit of an era.

Personally, he called her the flower of the desert, the anticipated queen of the Toda kingdom before they parted on Davy's journey to seek the value of his death, when he who was an obedient famous poet slave within ancient Thebes. They didn't communicate even when they wrote letters, none of which reached their intended recipient. Their thoughts spoke together as they struggled for the true meaning of life while immersed in the profound mystery of love, their destiny hanging in the balance of Love and Fear. I learn how they talk in dreams, and I overheard their conversation before one of them said that love enhances strength and capabilities twofold. Before I said love weakens the strong and destroys the weak. But then I knew someone who loves unconditionally, his love has never end. He is the one and only" To the mind taught me love, To the hands that cradled my heart, To the eyes that beheld my pain, To a heart that cared for my feelings, To you, my beloved of the heart. If a picture is worth 1,000 words and seemingly money is the most pressing thing in life, while poetry stimulates the mind's passions, then they all join hands to look at the extreme imbalance of wealth affecting society today. Based on a central pen and ink, the mural is broken down into components and stitched together with poetry. The imaginary setting is a pandemic of the One Percent of the US population that has accumulated half of the world's wealth and explores this on different levels. While the author supports the need for change, he focuses on leaving the readers free to make their own choices by casting their votes in democratic elections. While the mural is set in the United States, it applies to much of the world's political policy. He also encourages further debate on a more equitable model for the preservation of resources and the suitability of human presence on Earth. For many years the author was an Architectural draftsman and found greater pleasure in drawing friends and the many different things he encountered while traveling. Rather than following the trend of computer-generated drawing in architecture, he dedicated his time to creating wooden sculptures and developed his unique organic architecture using all manner of natural materials. Recently he has also written a book titled, "The Stories from the POPOL VUH" featuring 50 of his charming illustrations with the stories arranged for all reader levels. This ability to use the simple materials of pen and ink has influenced his work in political dialogue and he has ambitions to use these skills for further political statements. The 'Money, Money, MONEY', is a cartoon mural that is a light-hearted romp across the US political landscape with many comments and poems in which the author hopes to influence us to work together to protect our physical world and create more equality. The reader will find the original drawing with about 30 detailed illustrations of characters of the 1% representing BIG TECH to Big Meat and APEZON to THE TRAMP with layers of poems and comments.
