This is a Modern Greek grammar book from beginner to advanced level. It is one of a kind, as it includes theory sections explained in English plus numerous exercises. Originally published in December 2022 and updated in August 2024, it explains the language as it is used today (with contemporary phrases and with the modern accentuation system). Each chapter includes a brief theory section, followed by many exercises to make sure the student has mastered each topic. Answers to all exercises are also provided, which is particularly helpful for students who are practicing without the help of an instructor. In the first sections we cover reading and writing: double vowels, double consonants, placement of the stress mark, etc. Then we move on to articles, pronouns, nouns in the three genders, conjugation of nouns, adjectives and their conjugation, adjective-noun agreement, adverbs, comparative and superlative of adjectives and adverbs, among other topics.>The book is not an exhaustive grammar reference and is not meant to replace grammar books but rather puts the emphasis on practice. Explanations are given in English and instructions for the exercises are given in English and Greek. The meaning of numerous Greek words is given (right under each word), to facilitate learning and to help beginners -who may still have limited vocabulary- to complete the exercises without having to constantly refer to a dictionary.
The Footstool and the Armchair is a story about two friends. When one feels unhappy and unloved, the other lifts him up and shows him the positive side of things and the beauty of the world around us. Being in contact with nature, serving others, loving yourself, and having good friends to rely on are some of the positive messages the story aims to convey. The story is written in English and Greek. You can enjoy it in either language and take away its positive message or read it in both English and Greek, using it as a language-learning tool. At the end of the story you will find questions to test your reading comprehension; or if you're reading the story to your child, use them as starting points for thought-provoking discussions.
This book has been designed for low intermediate to advanced learners of modern Greek. It can be used for self-study or in the classroom. It is written in everyday language that is actually used in Greece, with realistic dialogs and situations. The book includes 11 stories (all 10 stories of the 1st edition plus one with a holiday theme), which revolve around a typical Greek family. Each chapter consists of: a text, increasing in complexity as you progress in the booka vocabulary section with the words as they appear in the text and in their original form (e.g. θα φύγουμε = we will leave ― verb φεύγω = I leave/I am leaving)reading-comprehension questions (True or False and multiple choice)grammar and vocabulary exercises to practice what you've learned in each textanswers to the exercises.
