First day: some elevation gain. Second day destination: Keylong (elevation 10,000 feet), a good place to acclimate. Third day: 17 hours to Leh (elevation 11,500 feet). Our "road" the infamous Leh-Manali Highway. Narrow, few guardrails. Mud, rocks, water cascading across the road, avalanches, mudslides, dust. Elevations of more than 17,000 feet. Countless trucks, buses, military convoys; cars, motorcycles, bicyclists; vehicles lying at the bottom of ravines. Sheep, goats, horses. "Handiworkers" who repair the road by hand because heavy equipment is practically useless. Our average speed: 10 miles per hour. But the majestic scenery was beyond belief. It was an experience!
TROPICAL ECSTASY: 5-stars review from readersfavorite.com!A vagabond always wants to go elsewhere. Why not, now and then, go back? A solo nostalgia trip, back to Brazil after a quarter-century absence.Tropical Ecstasy is the narrative of a month-long adventure of discovery and rediscovery: A cruise of the Amazon, hikes into the jungle, and Manaus, the metropolis amidst raw Nature. Then to the Northeast of Brazil, to Olinda, an old colonial capital, and to the modern state capitals on the Atlantic. The ultimate destination is the town of Penedo, where Norman Weeks had lived. As an ex-Peace Corps Volunteer, the author knows the territory, the language, the culture, and the people. Tropical Ecstasy records fresh daily impressions against a backdrop of deep previous knowledge and experience. The author treats the locals not as caricatures, but with human sympathy. After all, he was, once, one of them.
Back in 2004, I embarked on a journey to Japan to teach English as a Second Language; a job I had never done before. I was totally qualified though because I spoke English. I had wanted to travel more, but not being able to afford it, I had the brilliant idea to move abroad. Kill two birds with one stone - travel and get paid to do it. I knew little about the food, less about the culture, none of the language, and was hired for a job I had never done before. Eh, details.Follow me as I fumble through the country, living and working, and discovering about the food, culture, and language I once knew nearly nothing about. I'll give you all the juicy stuff traditional guide books leave out, like what pastries to steer clear of and how to keep your cool while trying to flush a Japanese toilet. However, if you just enjoy a good laugh at someone else's expense, that's fine too.
What's a great way to get from the USA to Spain? By water. How? On a tall ship. So that's what I did! From Barbados to Malaga with a stopover in the Azores. Aboard Royal Clipper, the world's largest and most luxurious tall ship. Sixteen days at sea. Great company, great conversations, great experience. With some really good times in both Barbados and Spain to boot: outdoor movies, swimming, history, culture, and joy that comes when we are receptive and adventuresome.

For decades, Graeme S. Mount taught a course on twentieth-century global history. Lesson preparation and research took him to all continents, and he pursued a lifelong interest in international borders. Most border crossings were uneventful, others highly memorable. These pages recount his most noteworthy adventures at, and along, international borders. The stories are timely. Borders, border controls, and the absence of border controls have repercussions on the lives of ordinary people.Graeme S. Mount is the author of thirteen books, the most recent being "895 Days That Changed the World: The Presidency of Gerald R. Ford "(2005).
Bonne lecture !

It's a very short memoir about her seven weeks in Indianapolis in the summer of 2022, the classes she taught, her students, the project she gave her advanced class, the coffee shops she visited, and what she learned about coffee during this time.

I once asked a writing instructor how to write about a place I had never been to. The instructor replied simply, "You go there!"My friend and client Rosalie Giffoniello wanted me to help her write her memoir about her encore career ... to provide educational funding for children who live in the slums of Kolkata (Calcutta), India. In her manuscript for that book, Reclaiming Lives, she had already written great copy of the people and their emotions, but the story needed a description of the place. So I went there. This book, then, is a compilation of my interactions with Rosalie and her teachers and the students as well as adventures in this densely crowded megapolis that I created on my own.Read this book and you will see scenes, people, culture, schools, and religions of Kolkata that you will never find through a travel agent or tourist guide. You will be there! It is the 17th in the entire "Journey ..." series and the sixth and last of the "Under Angels' Wings" subset theme.110 photos, links to five YouTube videos.
