This edition intimately portrays Lyon's famous Traboules, the Roman Aqueduct of Gier, renowned passageways within the city and bridges that line both the Saone and Rhone Rivers. Traboules are clandestine passageways winding through buildings and courtyards. Each passage is unique and often features buildings with pastel colors, confounding curves, arches, vaulted ceilings and spiral staircases. Each traboule radiates mystery and intrigue within the shadows. Many boast a Renaissance era heritage with some dating back to reportedly the 4th century. An estimated 400 traboules exist within Lyon with approximately 40 identified by a small blue lion emblem and open to public access. Inhabitants of the Roman colony of Lugdunum established residences on the banks of the Saone River due to the lack of fresh running water. The lower Vieux Ville (old city) settlement was established at the foot of Fourviere Hill. The traboules were designed to permit expedient access for residents to the river. Silk production was once the major industry within Lyon. The silk workers numbering approximately 25,000 were called Canuts. They became a prominent presence within the neighborhoods during the early 19th century. They employed the passageways to carry their heavy textile workloads from their Croix-Rousse district workshops to textile merchants at the foot of the hill. The Roman Gier Aqueduct was constructed during the 1st and 2nd Centuries presumably during Emperor Hadrian's reign. His substantial legacy included construction projects throughout the Roman Empire and a wall named after him located in northern Britain. The aqueduct was originally sourced from the Gier River on Mount Pilat, the largest peak of three located in a range outside of St. Etienne, to the southwest of Lyon. Legend attributes that the body of Roman Governor Pontius Pilate was buried there. The aqueduct transported fresh water 53 miles until it reached its summit and termination location upon Fourviere Hill within the 5th arrondissement of Lyon. The aqueduct was constructed of stone, brick and fastened by volcanic cement called Pozzolana. The design traveled inhospitable terrain employing vaulted masonry arches, a complex piping system and Siphon bridges that forced the flow uphill. Much of the structure remains today. The most picturesque ruins are photographed in this edition and located in the communes of Mornant, Chaponost and Saint-Foy-Les Lyon. Lyon is a pedestrian-friendly city burdened by steep and flinty inclines. The inlaid stone pathways and staircases reveal stunning architecture, commercial offerings and ancient historic sites. Many of the routes were developed amidst some of Lyon's most turbulent and influential historical events. Eighteen bridges are photographed crossing the Saone and Rhone Rivers to complete the passageway profile. The book's overall view, background descriptions and sweeping panorama offer a stunning composite of France's third largest city. Lyon contains a distinctive mixture of ancient and contemporary influences with a major urban center and periphery.

Virgin Gorda Travel Guide, BVI. Tourism. Virgin Gorda is a gorgeous Caribbean gem where the super-rich come to experience unfazed local friendliness and tropical waters. Pristine natural beauty abounds both above and below the water. Steep hills adorn the northwest half of the island towards 'Bitter End', boasting breathtaking views of the BVI and open Atlantic ocean. On the southwestern tip of Gorda, the famous 'baths' can be found; thousands of huge smooth boulders peppering the beach, creating unique natural seawater pools and a mazelike network of tunnels and crevices. Most tourists will arrive at Spanish Town, the main settlement on the island. A few convenience stores, watersports companies and places to eat cluster around the yacht marina there. Around the turquoise waters of Gorda are some of the most pristine spots for snorkelling and diving in the BVI. Swimming the waters of certain areas of the western coast can almost be guaranteed with sea turtle sightings among the decor of pretty soft coral and vibrant fish. In the north sound near bitter end, a watersports and yachting mecca awaits. Kitesurfing is the mainstay here, as strong gusts with sizeable waves plough in steadily from the Atlantic. The east coast is rugged and unsuitable for leisure purposes, other than enjoying the stunning views of wave after wave pounding in under the tropical sun from the high vantage point offered at Gorda Peak National Park.

Grenada is by far the largest of the three, with a width of twelve miles (18 km) and a length of twenty-one miles (34 km). Its 133 square miles are mountainous, volcanic terrain, reaching heights of over 2,750 feet atop Mount St. Catherine. This topography provides Grenada with one of the loveliest and most varied environments in the Caribbean, including crater lakes as well as a variety of plant and animal life. Dwarf forests high atop Mount St. Catherine descend to the montane rainforests of middle altitudes, which give way in turn to the dry forests of the lowlands. Those forests shift to mangrove at the coast, giving way to stunning white sand beaches, brilliant blue water and exquisite coral reefs

It's the perfect vacation destination for families, whether it's for a quick day trip, a weekend getaway, or an extended stay. This small barrier island off the south coast of New York's Long Island is home to two thriving gay resort towns: Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines. Getting here is half the fun: take the Long Island Rail Road to Sayville, a shuttle bus to a 30-minute ferry ride, then walk. There are no cars here, just wooden boardwalks and people pulling little red wagons full of their groceries. The two communities each have their own vibe: The Pines feels more like New York's Chelsea: pretty party boys and gay professionals; the Grove is more diverse and down to earth (and attracts a younger AND an older crowd). Between the two towns is a small strip of forest affectionately known as the "meat rack" just about one of the friskiest places on earth.
