The glorious county of Wiltshire boasts two World Heritage sites: Stonehenge and Avebury. These magnificent monuments have fascinated people for thousands of years and continue to draw millions of visitors from across the world. There is a vast array of other Neolithic sites in the county, including Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow. Together with its impressive heritage, Wiltshire is known for its beautiful landscape - almost half of the county is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Salisbury Plain covers 300 square miles and is famous for its archaeology, although it is now used mainly for military training and is closed to the public, which makes it an impressive wildlife haven. In this book, professional photographer Diane Vose captures the spirit, essence and identity of Wiltshire in a series of exceptional images. This stunning visual treasury highlights the history and variety of places to be found in this south-western shire and reveals how it is a place where the past and present work in perfect harmony. White horses carved into the chalk hillsides are a symbol of Wiltshire at locations including Westbury, Cherhill, Devizes, Alton Barnes, Pewsey and Marlborough. The city of Salisbury has its medieval cathedral, and dotted throughout the county are historic market towns and charming, picturesque villages. Places such as Lacock and Castle Combe are popular filming locations and visitors will recognise the gold stone cottages, pretty bridges and quaint high streets. Taken throughout the seasons, these pictures reflect the scenic splendour, rich heritage and contrasting treasures of this enchanting county. Wiltshire in Photographs is a superb collection of images that will appeal to residents and visitors alike.

Hysteria, a mysterious disease known since antiquity, is said to have ceased to exist. Challenging this commonly held view, this is the first cross-disciplinary study to examine the current functional neuroimaging research into hysteria and compare it to the nineteenth-century image-based research into the same disorder. Paula Muhr's central argument is that, both in the nineteenth-century and the current neurobiological research on hysteria, images have enabled researchers to generate new medical insights. Through detailed case studies, Muhr traces how different images, from photography to functional brain scans, have reshaped the historically situated medical understanding of this disorder that defies the mind-body dualism.

In his monumental photographs, taken with a large-format analogue camera, Pawel Bownik examines "artificiality" in photography. Drawing inspiration from the classic iconography of historical still lifes, and genre painting, as well as the aesthetics of 1940s American cinema, he questions historical norms of representation. Carefully dissecting the elementary components of his subjects, his work is driven by his attention to minutiae. Flowers are disassembled, only to be surgically reconstructed - without hiding their artificiality. Alternatively, he challenges the historical narratives symbolized by traditional costumes. Turning them inside-out introduces the possibility of a different reading: In their reversed state, the intricate embroideries not only reveal their materiality, but also speak of their socio-historical context. Undercoat encompasses Bownik's work from the past decade, informed by the artist's awareness of the underlying patterns that give form to our surroundings and how we perceive them.Warsaw-based artist PAWEL BOWNIK (*1977) studied philosophy and sociology in Lublin, as well as photography and multimedia at the Poznan Academy of Fine Arts. His work has been exhibited in numerous group shows in Poland and beyond.

The 1947 Woodward Tornado remains the deadliest tornado in Oklahoma history, leaving more than 100 people dead and nearly 1,000 seriously injured. The tornado struck the city of Woodward under cover of darkness and without warning at 8:42 p.m. on April 9, 1947. The storm left in its wake hundreds of stories of tragic loss, devastation, and even mysteries that remain unsolved. These include the three unidentified girls--one as young as six months--whose bodies have remained unclaimed, as well as the mystery of what happened to Joan Gay Croft, a girl who disappeared from the local hospital on the night of the storm. Croft's disappearance was featured in an episode of the television show Unsolved Mysteries in the early 1990s. There is also the oft-overlooked story of those who took up residence (some for more than a year) in Tornado Town west of the city and found some glimmer of hope in an otherwise hopeless situation.

With the commitment to her truth, shadow work, emotional depth, intentional living, and vulnerability, she creates a fulfilling life as she consistently chooses to show up as her favorite version of the authentic self.In Tuesdays, Heartbreaks, and Soulmates, she shares fragments of time that have weaved themselves into the celestial fibers of her existence. A sumptuous, large-format photographic homage to the end of the analog eraSince 2006, coinciding with his shift away from analog film to working exclusively with a digital camera, Richard Misrach has been exploring the aesthetic possibilities of the negative image. His latest body of work, debuted in this deluxe, oversize (16.75 by 13 inches), landscape-format volume, comprises dazzling, sublime photographs of landscapes and natural scenes--in negative, but using color with great dexterity and nuance.Inspired by Ansel Adams' comparison of the photographic negative to a musical score, and John Cage's 1969 book, Notations, which compiles music scores as art, Misrach here envisages the photographic image as a score-like negative, teetering on abstraction, that invites a diversity of interpretations. The result is a series of immense beauty unlike any previous Misrach publication.Richard Misrach (born 1949) is one of the most influential photographers working today. For the past five decades, he has used visually stunning, large-scale color vistas to address human intervention in the natural world. He lives and works in Berkeley, California.
