Serious visual artists can now easily understand and apply the secret geometry that masters used to create remarkable art. Superior mathematical skills aren't required because there are hundreds of excellent step-by-step diagrams to explain everything with simplicity. Learn how the ancient and modern masters used dynamic symmetry to promote unity, movement, rhythm, and strength. These qualities, along with many others, allowed their art to have visual clarity, impact, and stand the test of time. This is an essential book for painters, photographers, sculptors, and cinematographers that hold composition and design with a high priority. For far too long, artists have been stuck with the basic tools of artistic composition, like the rule of thirds and leading lines. Unfortunately, we're incapable of reaching the master level if all we know are the basics. Powerful tools like dynamic symmetry and other composition techniques have been kept a secret from all of us. It's time to learn of them, push past any plateau that stands in our way, and finally unlock our true potential!

From Alison Rossiter: "In honor of Anna Atkins who was the first person to illustrate a book with photographs, I have produced 'Compendium 1898-1919', a chronology of 12 assemblages made from the earliest expired photographic papers in my collection. The exact expiration dates of these papers pinpoint their location on a timeline and coexist with events in world history. No matter what the light-sensitive materials have endured through dormant years, they still respond to chemical development, and the resulting photographic tones are evidence of experience. Physical damage, moisture, and mold produce tonal changes when developed, and I consider these effects to be subject matter." This book, a co-publication with the New York Public Library and Yossi Milo, includes all 12 works from the series at actual scale, along with close-up details, photographed by Peter Riesett, Head Photographer, Digital Imaging Unit, New York Public Library. The reference dates, which cover world events such as World War II, and art-historical references like Picasso's Blue Period, will also be included as a reference key in the back of the book. Aerial and on-site photographs made at a classified military site in the Great Salt Lake Desert by David Maisel, author of Black MapsDavid Maisel's (born 1961) Proving Ground comprises aerial and on-site photographs made at Dugway Proving Ground, a classified military site covering nearly 800,000 acres in Utah's Great Salt Lake Desert. A primary mission of Dugway is to develop, test and implement chemical and biological weaponry and defense programs. After more than a decade of inquiry, Maisel was granted access to this facility in order to photograph the terrain, the testing facilities and other aspects of the site.Maisel began by photographing at ground level, focusing on structures related to the testing of chemical warfare dispersal patterns. He then moved to an aerial perspective to create images that resemble large-scale minimalist drawings inscribed on the land. Maisel's work at Dugway also includes photographs of the newly minted WSLAT (Whole System Live Agent Test) facility, which is devoted to identification and neutralization of chemical and biological toxins that can be weaponized by terrorists or rogue nations.

Commemorating a crisis: the first monograph on Eric Rhein, poetical chronicler of the AIDS epidemic in photos, drawings and assemblagesThis is the first book on the work of American artist Eric Rhein (born 1961), whose career has spanned four decades. This unique monograph-memoir features intimate photographs, taken between 1989 and 2012. The self-portraits and images of friends and lovers correspond to the period spanning Rhein's HIV diagnosis, his subsequent near death and his experience of a renewed sense of vitality. New York Times critic Holland Cotter wrote of Rhein's work: "the combination of art and craft, delicacy and resiliency, feminine and masculine, is exquisitely wrought and is, as it should be, seductive but disturbing." As a personal response to the AIDS crisis, Rhein's compelling portraits highlight tenderness and care as life-saving instincts. Included are related bodies of work: delicate assemblages and wire drawings, often serving as memorials for fallen friends. Rhein's photography, wire drawings, sculpture and watercolors honor love, touch, connection to nature, and familial history. Rhein mines collective and personal narratives, formulating pieces that are at once poetic and documentarian. Mark Doty and Paul Michael Brown contribute essays.

"Photo Revolution: Andy Warhol to Cindy Sherman will investigate how and why the 1960s and '70s became a vital era for the ascension of photography to the status of fine art, arguing that critical to the acceptance of both Pop Art and fine photography was a newfound acceptance of multiples. Prior to Pop Art, art media that produced "copies," like in prints and photographs, were perpetually undervalued compared to "original" objects like paintings. However, with the appropriation of photo-based imagery by artists like Andy Warhol and Tom Wesselmann, Pop Art and photography developed a symbiotic relationship as Pop Art certified the aesthetic importance of photography through its appropriation. Using a variety of media derived mostly from the Worcester Art Museum's permanent collection, Photo Revolution: Andy Warhol to Cindy Sherman investigates Pop Art, Conceptual Art, and emerging photo-based art forms, primarily through the lens of photography. It seeks to illustrate how photographs leap from second-tier status to the driving force behind contemporary art production with the emergence of artists like Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin, and Martha Rosler. The book will also illustrate how photography became entrenched in art production globally, as seen in the photomontages of British conceptual artist John Stezaker, conceptual work by Polish video artist and photographer Andrej Paruzel, and in the work of Japanese documentary photographer Hiromi Tuschida"--

A tender, lighthearted homage to a father's "beautiful legs"Croatian-born photographer and architect Sara Perovic's mother once told her, "I fell in love with your father because of his beautiful legs." With this small paperback photobook, Perovic (born 1984) has created a tender, humorous study of her boyfriend's legs, as a stand-in for her father's, depicting them in color against various backdrops--aboard a boat, indoors, standing on a bed, or on the tennis court--isolated from the rest of his body. She laments that her father's love of tennis kept his attentions away from her when she was a child, and a short series of full-figure portraits of him delivering a backhand shot in flipbook style concludes the volume, along with a coda from the photographer: "And now my daughter's father has beautiful legs.

A Mouth Full: The Re-Cookbook takes the archetypal cookbook beyond images of food and recipes that make your mouth water. It's a prototype for rethinking what a cookbook evokes and what it can become-a place where the mind can wander through memories of food, recipes, people, and places that make us who we are.
