MUD is an ongoing collaboration between Arnaud Lajeunie and Georgia Pendlebury. For five years they have photographed girls cast online from all over Europe. The girls are strangers to one another. Lajeunie and Pendlebury seek to study the behaviour between them as their relationships develop within this artificially created situation. The first four volumes from this evolving body of work are now published by Art Paper Editions. The fifth volume is due to be shot later this year.
In the past thirty years the word Padania has become part of everyday life in Italy. It refers to an area in Northern Italy that extends from the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. A territory that exists in the ideas of many, but that geographically, culturally and juridically remains undefined. Padanistan (using 'stan' as an alternative marker for land), seeks to challenge ownership of this region. Creating a new conceptual space in order to question the existence of Padania and the legitimacy of the right wing politics that created it. The title Padanistan deliberately hijacks the nationalistic rhetoric found within Padanian politics. It questions the notion of place, of boundaries and of defined identities, directly confronting the singular and divisive vision of Italian culture, and the misguided idea of one 'real' Italy. Padanistan presents a much more nuanced and complex reality, a vision that celebrates a fluid connection with Italy, surrounding countries and the world beyond. The project is the result of a personal view developed as a long road trip along the main national road that connects Torino to Venezia, to discover the places and people living along the way, giving birth to a contemporary reflection on the Northern Italian province. Co-published by Guest Editions (UK) and studiofaganel (Italy). Edited by Peter Bialobrzeski with afterword by Italian writer Gianluca Didino.
In Elleboogkerk ('Elbow Church') in Amersfoort (The Netherlands) Gijs Frieling created an immense spirited mural which will be destroyed after being open to public for 4 months. The immense, captivating artwork that Gijs Frieling and his assistants have created in Amersfoort's Elleboogkerk has a particular effect on all of us who enter. Our eyes dart around in vain; it's impossible to construct a mental image that captures everything. We're caught off guard and overwhelmed.
The general public's image of Mondrian is of a serious man in a suit and tie with a reserved, rather aloof look. It is the same group of some ten photographs that shaped this image over time, although there are around 400 known photographs of the artist and his studios that provide a far more balanced and livelier image of Mondrian. This gorgeous book is not a biography, but rather a visual and emotional reference work for anyone who wants to immerse themselves in the world of this extraordinarily modern artist. The studios in Amsterdam, Paris, and New York are works of art themselves, as fascinating as the guests in these rooms. There are snapshots showing his private life, taken during journeys or visits, photographs of vernissages and dinners as well as formal portraits that he uses to promote the image of a serious, uncompromising artist.Detailed captions and richly illustrated essays on the significance of photography in the context of Mondrian's work make this book an extraordinary document of his time.PIET MONDRIAN (1872-1944) was one of the pioneers of abstract art. Hailing from a strict Calvinist family, the artist became famous for his compositions of black lines and rectangular fields in primary colors, but his early work was influenced by 19th century Dutch landscape painting.
"Still Life is a photographic celebration of the work of New York City-based florist, artist, and photographer Doan Ly. Through her studio, a.p. bio, Ly focuses on elevating floral design to art. While Ly's stunning photographs of her floral vignettes are reminiscent of old masters' paintings, her playful and innovative use of color and lighting are decidedly contemporary."--Amazon.com.

On a bright summer day when the New York City concrete sweats transparent shimmers of heat, a rumble like thunder approaches. They roll in wearing deep black leather cuts and throwing blinding reflections off the shiny metal of the motorcycles when they turn and catch the sun. Someone lights up the barbecue and cues the hip hop blaring from the stacked speakers in the street, and the bikers descend to the party in style. Adventure and brotherhood: this is what the biker searches for. They're thrill-seekers and occasional hell-raisers, obsessed with freedom: freedom from the ordinary, from tedium, from rules, from society. White clubs excluded black bikers, so fuck it-they started their own. Like every family, there are dramas and even violence. The older bikers lament the loss of tradition as new clubs explode on the scene all the time. But there's also a code of honor, and a profound loyalty to one's brothers and sisters in the club. Clubhouses collect coats for homeless shelters and fill their saddle bags with diapers and baby wipes to deliver to needy mothers. They know what their neighborhood needs more than anyone and mentor young people to keep them out of trouble. Ezy Ryders is the unexpected story of the New York City black biker. It's been ongoing since 2014, when I first met a Trinidadian club in Brooklyn and they took me to a barbecue where there were hundreds of other riders. The project ballooned from there-after a period in which I was "prospecting" the scene myself. I've conducted interviews with ten bikers from a variety of backgrounds, which will be included in a hardcover book published by The Artist Edition in Spring 2022.
In 1981, Andrew Miksys' father started publishing the Bingo Today newspaper in Seattle. The newspaper was filled with photographs his father took of bingo players and stories about the prizes they won. Advertising by local bingo halls paid the bills. Andrew's mom wrote the horoscopes. Andrew was introduced to the world of bingo when I was eleven and his parents took him to a bingo session for kids. He won $300. Within a few days he bought the best BMX bike I could find, a red and blue Redline MXIII. It was his dream bike. He went to a custom shop and put it together piece by piece. In very little time it had brought him fortune and the envy of all his friends. When Andrew got his driver's license at sixteen, his dad gave him the job of delivering the Bingo Today to bingo halls and convenience stores all around Seattle. Ten years later he returned to Seattle to visit his parents for Christmas and decided to revisit some of the bingo halls with his camera. The bingo hall managers and regulars remembered him from his delivery days and Andrew began making photographs for this project. Over the next seven years, he expanded the project and photographed in many other bingo halls around the United States. BINGO includes Andrew's color photographs, his father's black and white photographs, and some graphic design elements from Bingo Today.
Martina Sauter's (*1974) photographic work portrays interiors with complex planes of space and time that simultaneously explore their construction through the media. Her work focuses on how humans design the spaces in which they live and how internal spaces are created through personal experience and by what is conveyed by the media. Martina Sauter combines photographs that she herself has taken with stills from films and screenshots of newspaper images to create visual spaces with unfamiliar perspectives within which fragmented figures or text appear. This encourages the viewer to explore ostensible representations of reality while challenging them to attempt to solve the spatial pictorial puzzles they depict. One group of works is dedicated to unusual species of animals, which are positioned in new habitats through the use of collages. These works are unique visual events encompassing partial areas that glow in the dark, providing an opening into further additional worlds. The publication ONE/TWO is a book and an object in one and features works created between 2008 and 2022.
This is a photobook of India. Whilst there are many photobooks of this diverse and fascinating country, 'A Picture of India' tries to get beyond the tourist attractions to show through photo stories how India works. Each of the 162 images has an explanation of the context to give the reader a better understanding of the story in the photograph, together with photographer's notes which explain how the image was taken. It should whet the appetite of those who have yet to visit the country, provide a reminder and deeper understanding for those who have already been, and offer guidance and ideas to travel photographers.
