Tamara Dean's photography deftly explores the undercurrents of the human condition. Tamara Dean's symbolically charged compositions of contemplative stillness and explosive action see humans intimately immersed in their surroundings: submerged in water, enmeshed in undergrowth, leaping from rockfaces. Exploratory and ethereal, laden with risk and chance and adventure, her images reveal the complex inter-relationships inherent in contemporary rites of passage and our connection to nature. This book, her first published monograph, is both a retrospective of Dean's work to date and a perfect introduction for those unfamiliar with her practice. Organised chronologically by series, each introduced with a brief text by the artist, it will give readers an insight into the evolution of her work and the themes and motifs that have featured throughout her career.
GSM - All photography shot on iPhone is the ultimate photo book entirely shot on an iPhone by French fashion photographer and director Axel Morin. Through his eye as an artist, Axel has developed a poetic storytelling of all the micro-narratives of the city, capturing the very essence of it. Since the beginning of this series initiated in 2014, several generations of iPhone have been used by Morin, who captured these city snapshots. The tones, the lines, the lights follow one another and answer each other in a cinematographic montage, presenting a modern and delicate world-city. This book is an archive of our time, made with the tool we always carry with us, which have become an extension of ourselves. The images are not anticipated or constructed, they are the ones that emerge from the urban monotony and are collected by the phone. The very graphic composition of the photographs draw from the background of Morin as a painter, and the association of lines and colors plunge us into a reenchanted everyday life.
For 45 years I've chronicled the Royal Family for the Sun newspaper with my camera. I've witnessed their triumphs and disasters, their laughter and tears, when they've found love and when their relationships splinter. I'm there when they emerge from the maternity wing as wailing newborns and I'm there again when they marry before a joyous nation. And when they're laid to rest on those solemn occasions that this country marks so well, I'm on hand to capture history being made. Arthur Edwards has been the Sun's Royal Photographer for over 45 years; the longest-serving of any newspaper. Originally from the East End of London, he is the man behind the most iconic photographs of the most famous family in the world. With commensurate skill and unprecedented access, he has captured the candid moments when protocol is put aside, revealing the true personalities behind the Crown. This beautiful book is a treasure trove of glorious photography, along with Arthur's own warm recollections of the stories behind his iconic shots. It is the perfect glimpse behind the scenes of the last 50 years of the British monarchy, from a truly unique perspective.
This book provides basic information on cranes that should be of interest and importance to crane-loving birders ("craniacs") as well as to ornithologists and wildlife managers. Primary consideration is given to the sandhill and whooping cranes, but all 13 of the Old World cranes are also discussed. Special consideration is given to the relative abundance and conservation status of all of the world's species, of which nearly half are declining and a few are in real danger of long-term survival. More than 80 refuges and preserves in the United States and Canada, where the best chances of seeing cranes in the wild exist, are described, as are several zoos and bird parks with notable crane collections. Descriptions of 16 North American annual crane festivals and information on more than 50 bird-finding guides from regions, states, and provinces where cranes are most likely to be seen are included. Lastly, there is a sampling of American, European, and Oriental crane folklore, legends, and myths. The text contains more than 50,000 words and nearly 350 literature references. There are more than 40 drawings and 3 maps by the author and 19 color photographs by Thomas D. Mangelsen.
