Dieser führte ihn unter strengen Sicherheitsvorkehrungen über die Zeitspanne von einem Jahr rund 25.000 Kilometer durch das Land. Während dieser ungewöhnlichen Reisen fotografierte Nolting ein persönliches und umfassendes Dokument des Lebens in Zeiten des globalen Krisenzustands. Sein Fotoprojekt About the Days Ahead reflektiert die deutsche Gesellschaft zwischen kollektiver Isolation, Angst, Verzweiflung und der Sehnsucht nach einer improvisierten Normalität.Nolting beschreibt das Fotoprojekt als Konfrontationstherapie, als seinen Umgang mit der Ohnmacht und der Angst, die die Pandemie zu Beginn in ihm auslöste. Noltings Bilder sind still und distanziert. Mit reduzierter Farbigkeit und klaren Kompositionen fotografierte er Momente, die über den Schrecken der Pandemie hinaus von gesellschaftlichem Umgang und der Absurdität des Alltags erzählen.
