Karl-Heinz Drescher (born on October 7, 1936 in Quirl; died on May 19, 2011 in Berlin) was a graphic artist working at Bertolt Brecht's world famous theater Berliner Ensemble as a graphic designer for almost 40 years. In addition to his work at this house, Drescher also worked for other organizers, museums, galleries, and theaters, amongst others the Akademie der Künste der DDR, the Maxim-Gorki-Theater, and the Deutsche Staatsoper in Berlin. His catalog of works today comprises over 400 posters, about one third printed with letterpress. In a one-year research, the designer Markus Lange contacted Drescher's family and conducted various interviews with companions and friends to find out more about this talented designer, who studied from 1955 to 1960 in the former GDR at the same school as he did (Burg Giebichenstein, formerly Hochschule für industrielle Formgestaltung). For the first time, this book summarizes most of Drescher's (typographic) posters in one comprehensive volume and contains texts and interviews by various authors such as Dr. Friedrich Diekmann, Dr. Sylke Wunderlich, Helmut Brade, Niklaus Troxler, Gerd Fleischmann, Jamie Murphy, Erik Spiekermann, Ferdinand Ulrich, Götz Gramlich, Peter Kammerer, Vera Tenschert, Cesarina and Alessandro Drescher. "Karl-Heinz Drescher-Berlin Typo Posters, Texts, and Interviews" serves as a review of the life of an extraordinary theater graphic designer but also as an inspiration for the here and now.

Minter's daring, sensational, intensely chromatic photo series of senior sexOriginally published for a 2022 New York Times article on "The Joys (and Challenges) of Sex after 70," this photographic series by Marilyn Minter explores the almost unchartered territory of sex late in life. Intimate, fantastically bold, sometimes shocking and very Marilyn Minter in the best way, these photographs cast an uninhibited look at "unconventional" bodies and challenge our traditional and often stereotyped vision of sex. Ultimately, these joyful, empowering and body-positive images remind us that the frontiers of sexuality are unlimited and that we can choose the type of pleasure we want at every stage of our lives. An afterword by acclaimed New Yorker writer Naomi Fry dwells on the feminist implications of Minter's work as it addresses the issues our society faces when it comes to aging. In paintings, videos and photos, Marilyn Minter (born 1948) has been exploring the intersection of desire, feminism and modes of representation since the late 1960s. She has had solo exhibitions at White Columns in New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art among other locations. Her retrospective Pretty/Dirty was presented in 2016 at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and MCA Denver, before traveling to the Orange County Museum of Art and the Brooklyn Museum in New York.

"Our thoughts are known to us, and us alone. But for a brief period in the 1960s, Ted Serios (1918-2006) attempted to prove that his inner reality could be documented. Serios demonstrated an ostensibly psychic act termed "thoughtography," involving the transfer of mental images onto undeveloped Polaroid film. In studies supervised by respected Denver-based psychiatrist Dr. Jule Eisenbud, Serios produced over 1,000 anomalous photographs, a feat that has never been fully dismissed or wholly verified. Existing as an uncomfortable knot in time, the details of the Serios phenomenon can't be disentangled without questioning the social conditions that produced it in the first place. Contextualizing Serios' story within the twilight zone of 1960s America, Ted Serios: The Mind's Eye considers the reaches and restraints of belief and explores the multiple dimensions at play in the Serios phenomenon, including interpersonal relationships, scientific methods, photographic technologies, state militaristic operations and popular culture. Rather than seeking absolute truth, the volume allows the reader to arrive at their own conclusions through a series of thematic essays, narrative photographic stories, select ephemera and contemporary cultural artifacts."--Publisher provided description.

The cat photoshops in this book have mostly been done from my iPhone in free apps. I do have a degree in Graphic Design, skilled in Photoshop, but the intent was never to make this actual artwork. Some shops are bad, quick and all are super cheesy. So cheesy. I stumbled across this group on Facebook awhile ago of cat lovers who make funny photoshops of their pets. A cat mom or dad will volunteer a photo of their fur baby and let us designers have a go at it. Sorry kitties, it's all their fault what happened to you. So to the art critics out there, this was all for fun. A five minute quick edit on an app on my phone. And viola a hilarious image of your favorite feline to share on social media. My intent was never to publish them, but while I was backing up my laptop I realized I had hundreds of these little gems! Well I couldn't not let these go to waste. I had to share them with the world! In October of 2021 Callie, my crazy Calico cat passed away from cancer. This group was one of the bright spots in my day. It is literally the only group on social media where there is no fighting, no politics, no nonsense just happy people sharing their feline friends. It makes me literally laugh out loud every time I look at the group and warms my heart to see other crazy cats living their best lives. So have fun and I hope you enjoy these photoshops as much as I did creating them. They are all my shops besides the dedication page that the admin of the FB group did, Helen Yang, which I greatly appreciate. For the famous people appearing in this book, I hope everyone knows this is all for fun, don't be a Karen. All proceeds coming from the sales of this book, I am donating back to a shelter or non-profit to help save kitties and find them forever homes. Adopt today.

Tracing Rosenberg's trajectory from early paintings to more recent endeavors in photography, film, sculpture and installationNew York- and Berlin-based artist Aura Rosenberg (born 1949) engages the many ways that images produce and reproduce conditions of everyday life, including notions of spectatorship, gender, normalized bodies, the family, history and legacy. For this reason, although she works in painting, sculpture, installation and performance, she most often deploys photography as her medium of choice. This catalog is published on the occasion of Rosenberg's solo exhibitions at the Mishkin Gallery, Baruch College, City University of New York (CUNY) and Pioneer Works. It pairs a selection of works spanning 50 years with 11 texts from notable writers such as director and actress Lena Dunham, curator and critic Robert Nickas, and curator Lumi Tan. This publication offers the first comprehensive overview of Rosenberg's work.

The Blitzshowcases 50 images from the Imperial War Museum's unique collection of photographs. During the Second World War, on 7 September 1940, the German air force unleashed a devastating bombing campaign. Seeking to force Britain into surrender, the Blitz saw towns and cities across the United Kingdom blasted with high explosives and set ablaze by fi rebombs. Yet even as the bombs rained down, a civilian army of air raid wardens, firemen, first aiders and rescue parties mobilised for battle. These striking photographs tell the stories of those who experienced the Blitz and highlight the bravery and determination of civilians in wartime Britain.

, Roger Bamber, for fifty years one of Britain's leading photojournalists, has poured his life's work into this unique reflection of a career that encompassed not only riots and bombings and the crazy world of rock and pop in the twentieth century but recorded with a sympathetic eye the demise of traditional British industries and the old steam railways. His graphic photographs are well known for their distinctive, often wryly humorous, style and strong visual impact and have been widely published worldwide. He was British Press Photographer of the Year, twice British News Photographer of the Year and won many awards for his features on the arts. Towards the end of his career he worked mainly for the Guardian and was happiest finding creative people with a story to tell. He preferred working outdoors, ideally within sight of the sea, and showcasing ordinary people - celebrating just how extraordinary all of us can be,

Oder der Ausspruch von Tennislegende Stan Smith: "Some people think I'm a shoe."

A grand panorama of race and civil unrest in America's past and presentCarrie Mae Weems has often confronted the uncomfortable truths of racism and race relations over the course of her nearly 40-year career. In The Shape of Things she focuses her unflinching gaze at what she describes as the circuslike quality of contemporary American political life. For this new work, Weems created a seven-part film projected onto a Cyclorama--a panoramic-style cylindrical screen that dates to the 19th century--where she addresses the turmoil of current events in the United States and the "long march forward."Drawing on news and TV footage from the civil rights era to today, elements of previous films such as The Madding Crowd (2017) and new film projects that bring us into our tumultuous present, the films in The Shape of Things combine documentary directness with poetic rhythm to create an enveloping experience. The films are narrated by Weems, and the layering of her resonant voice with these images articulates the dangerous mounting resistance to the "browning of America." As Weems shows in these powerful works, America is irreversibly changed and changing.Carrie Mae Weems (born 1953) has received numerous awards, grants and fellowships, and is represented in public and private collections around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and the Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Weems lives in Brooklyn and Syracuse, New York.

A beautifully somber photographic meditation on an ancient Jewish ritualThe Jewish tradition of leaving a stone or pebble at the gravesite of a loved one is an ancient custom of remembering the departed by means of a humble natural object. Minneapolis-based photographer Vince Leo (born 1949) began taking photographs of these "visitation stones" after several people close to him died in quick succession, and he found himself enacting the ritual of grief over and over. Placing a stone is a simple but powerful gesture that connects the living to the dead. Remembered as a Blessing contains 30 of Leo's black-and-white photographs, which honor these stones as the complex objects they are: simultaneously hard, durable pieces of matter and embodiments of ineffable spiritual relationships, often among many generations. Each of Leo's photographs fuses light, focus, viewpoint, reflection and magnification into a moment in which the ordinary and the symbolic coexist. Daniel Mendelsohn, acclaimed author of The Lost, contributes an essay.
