Introducing Bait, the little toad with a big personality. Bait the toad loves the camera, and the camera certainly loves him! From TikTok star to up-and-coming hat model, Bait has come a long way from his roots on the Rio Grande at the Texas-Mexico border. Nothing will stop him from becoming the world’s next top supermodel… certainly not the fact that he’s an amphibian. (Bait would like to stress that frogs and toads are entirely different—and while frogs must be kissed to become princes, toads are plenty royal on their own, thank you very much.) In his modeling portfolio, Bait is ready to prove that toads have what it takes to make it big. Whether it’s sporting sassy homemade hats, striking confident poses in the garden, or hanging out with his furry friends, this tiny toad has a lot to teach us all about being comfortable in our own skin. Brighten up your day or make a loved one laugh with Bait and his pals, a perfect gift for any age.
In this subtle sequel of his rearrangement of the Thai adult magazine "Siam's Guy", Tiane Doan na Champassak revisits a number of issues from the iconic magazine "Paris-Hollywood", launched in France in the 1940s. In the middleof its pages, the original magazine had the particularity of offering pin-ups in relief or on tracing paper that the readers could undress. By using his extensive arsenal of postmodern tools, Doan na Champassak cannibalizes the original content with his own photographs, creating a hypnotic dialogue between then and now, recto-verso, dressed-undressed, Bangkok-Paris, Paris-Hollywood. In addition, the alternation between censoring the genitalia and hiding the identity adds a thought-provoking rhythm to the whole.
One Second to Live: Photography, Film and the Corporeal in An Age of Extremes is a book, in 16 chapters, that covers the aspect of photography and film that deals with the "substantial" and the "non-spiritual" - the two dictionary definitions of the corporeal. Corporeal images - moving or still - explore our common terrestrial existence in a particular place (as opposed to space) and a specific time ( as opposed to non-temporal imaginary realms peculiar to science fiction of fantasy). Whatever the vast difference in corporeal photographs and films they all deal in some way with our innate, and complex relationship to all living things and to our own sensibility. Such a view accepts as a starting point that stories are lived in bodies and made in them. As a result corporeal works are usually grounded in an intensive appreciation of sense experience. Lastly, in corporeal works there is usually a sense of doubt about any arrangement that might organize this experience into a system or a philosophy - doubt is often ever-present, not as angst but as play - or just to complicate matters as some fusion of the two. Whatever the subject or themes, corporeal poetics are invariably also celebrations of the density of being. The corporeal artwork's most salient philosophical quality is usually some form of melancholy skepticism and stoicism balanced out by a variety of Epicurean gratifications. While these are expressed more often in ironic asides, jokes, reveries, satires or aphorisms, than in formal writings or artworks, the latter are the subject of this book where we will address the corporeal aspects of still and moving images. The 16 essays that make up the book primarily cover the 20th century starting with the auspicious meeting between Edward Weston and Tina Modotti in 1919, and on to Gerhard Richters "painting as photography" in the early 21st century. It is my hope that this book entertains, clarifies, and puts the work of these master photographers and filmmakers into some historical and cultural perspective.
Over the past five years, Caroline Tompkins has been making images of her sexual desires and fears. Her forthcoming book, Bedfellow explores the relationship sex has with pleasure and danger. It holds two truths at all times - desiring men while fearing them. " What makes Bedfellow a body of work that can be felt in the body is the way Tompkins uses the power dynamics of binary gender constructs to capture a kind of primal vulnerability, one that transcends gender: the inherent risk of walking around soft creatures in a hard world. Soft vs. hard-the dichotomy can be found in nearly every frame, two opposing forces simultaneously coexisting and threatening each other. " - Gideon Jacobs
Tod Papageorge started photographing intensely in New York¿s Central Park in the late 1970s and continued working there until he moved from the city in the early 1990s. More than ten years later, he edited these pictures into a book which, in its marriage of the sensual and poetic, evokes the prelapsarian Eden suggested by its title. This re-issue of Passing Through Eden duplicates the first 2007 edition in its entirety, including Papageorge¿s thoughtful essay on the evolution of his photography and its basis in his early attempts to write poetry. His essay further describes how the first half of the book follows the opening chapters of the Book of Genesis, from the Creation through the (metaphorical) generations that follow Cain, suggesting how, even in the heart of a modern city, we might find echoes of elemental Biblical tales being acted out around us by those drawn into the park and its promise of beauty and peace. This section of Passing Through Eden then leads to a run of pictures confirming that the human comedy is equally alive and well in the park, even as its landscape¿delightful and wild¿retakes center stage to end the book.
Tod Papageorge produced the photographs for Dr. Blankman¿s New York in 1966¿67, on the heels of moving into the city. Photographer friends persuaded him that he could help pay the rent by landing some magazine assignments, and that a carousel tray of slides would be the best way of convincing art directors to take a chance on him. So, often after spending a day in the streets photographing in black-and-white, he would put a roll of Kodachrome film in his camera on his walk home and make color pictures, in many cases of shop windows, a subject he was convinced might help him earn a bit of commercial work. This re-issue of Dr. Blankman¿s New York, first published by Steidl in 2017, has enlarged the size of the plates and, with one exception, condensed the original design to a series of double spreads, intensifying the sense that what Papageorge was doing in these photographs was elaborating, on a parallel track, the portrayal of Manhattan presented in the black-and-white work of ¿Down to the City,¿ the first volume of his War and Peace in New York (also published by Steidl this season). For even their saturated colors and outwardly unremarkable subjects fail to dispel the impression that, rather than winning a magazine job, the shadow of the long war in Vietnam and the hysteria it sparked were the impulses actually charging the photographer¿s eye and deepest feelings.
Helmut Newton's lens captured the essence of elegance, power, and glamorous sexuality, showcasing the allure of women as never before. His photographs tell stories that evoke desire, intrigue, and empowerment, leaving an indelible mark on the art world.

Text: Fabien Faure, Richard Shiff, Dieter Schwarz.

Consisting solely of previously unpublished photographs, The Way Back is a deep dive through Bruce Davidson's 60-year career. The book chronologically presents photos made between 1957 and 1992, showcasing Davidson's exceptional versatility-from his earliest assignments to later seminal bodies of work including his year-long study of teenage members of a "Brooklyn Gang" (1959), his extensive coverage of the American Civil Rights Movement in "Time of Change" (1961-65), and his breakthrough portraits of the residents of a single block in Harlem in "East 100th Street" (1966-68). Series such as "Subway" (1980) and "Central Park" (1992) furthermore confirm Davidson as a quintessential chronicler of New York City.Regardless of his motif, what emerges through this retrospective is Davidson's overt sensibility and empathy for his subjects, his commitment to documenting them in depth over time, and to capturing their beliefs, communities and subcultures. Unlike his peers who photographed events that constituted history, Davidson focused on the people within these histories. Now, drawing near the end of his long career, Davidson offers this book as a parting look at his artistic passage, an elegiac goodbye as well as a requiem: evidence how his vision, experienced over decades, has shaped our understanding of the world.

'On Line' is the second book in the 'On' series. It is part of an ongoing art/photographic project that focuses on a specific aspect as a way of expanding the way in which the world is seen. In this book the focus is images with a straight vertical line. The first book did this around the forms of reflected images and was call 'On Reflection'. The project continues as does the travelling that inspires and enables them.
In the 1990s, queer youth, outcasts and artists, flocked to San Francisco to find one another and to experiment with art, self-expression, style, and gender. Rent was affordable, paving the way for queer bars, clubs, tattoo shops, galleries, cafes, bookstores, and women-owned businesses to emerge. A new wave of feminism embraced gender bending, and butch/femme culture flourished. The Mission District was the center of this queer cultural renaissance, and the feeling of community was palpable. Chloe Sherman was both a member of this community and an ardent visual chronicler. Her documentary photographic work on 35mm film stems from a commitment to capturing the vibrancy, tenderness, individuality, resilience, and joy within this subculture that was derided by mainstream society. Distilling the spirit of the time, her debut monograph is a candid portrait of a vibrant era that connects current and future generations to the pulse of San Francisco at a pivotal chapter in queer history.CHLOE SHERMAN (*1969, New York City) arrived in San Francisco in 1991 and earned her BFA in Photography at the San Francisco Art Institute. Her work has been exhibited internationally and featured in magazines such as Rolling Stone and Interview. Her documentary photography is deeply influenced by her fine arts training.

The story of a young girl who transformed herself from an impoverished orphan to one of the wealthiest and most famous women in the world, this book features images and photographs of Chanel's many iconic contributions to women's fashion such as Chanel No. 5 perfume, the little black dress, the Chanel tweed suit, the Chanel 2.55 bag and the Chanel sling back shoes. The book details how Chanel was a friend to Winston Churchill and Edward Prince of Wales, whilst simultaneously embracing the carefree, unfettered bohemian life of Paris in the 1920's, where she moved easily amongst the great creatives of the era, writers, painters, musicians, actors, such as Jean Cocteau, Sergei Diaghilev, Igor Stravinsky, Jean Renoir and Luchino Visconti. Couturière to stars of the Hollywood silver screen, politics, and French and British high society, Coco Chanel counted Marlene Dietrich, Marilyn Monroe, Jackie Kennedy, Jane Fonda and myriad others among her customers. This is the story of her remarkable life and fashion, illustrated with beautiful images.
It is now 58 years since the line closed and the enormous achievements by the railway's staff and volunteers, from those first small steps right up to the present day, can be clearly seen by anyone who enjoys a ride along this wonderfully scenic 24-mile route from Whitby to Pickering. Could those early preservationists back in 1967 have possibly imagined that their project would evolve into a £6 million business carrying a third of a million passengers a year?Taking a pictorial journey along the entire original route from Whitby through to Pickering, this book allows the reader to compare the railway of old and the desolation of the early closure period with today's vibrant heritage line. With the railway having celebrated its golden jubilee on 1 May 2023, this book chronicles the remarkable developments and achievements, year by year, over that 50 year period, and concludes with a glimpse of how and by whom this has been made possible. In so doing, it serves as a tribute to half a century of progress and to the many hundreds of people who made it all possible.

"Maine Roadshow: A Roadside Tour of the State's History, Culture, Food, Funk & Oddities is lavishly illustrated with more than 400 photos, all taken by the author during a five-year, thousands-of-mile journey exploring and documenting all corners of the state. In this colorful exhibition, award-winning photo-journalist Tim O'Brien ventured far off the beaten path to discover interesting and often hidden roadside oddities and small attractions, while also exploring the lesser known aspects of the state's more familiar historic and significant attractions, giving the reader a robust understanding of the diversity of what Vacationland has to offer. This book has been created as an illustrated off the beaten path guide that introduces, through photos, hundreds of locations and events in the state. Many of which you won't find in the popular guides available at any book store or welcome center. Some are beautiful, some are quirky, some are odd, some are tasty, and some are downright historical and cool and need to be known. While exploring the destinations and landmarks within the book, the reader is encouraged to not only focus on the destinations, but to also embellish the journey along the way - just as the author did. That's how many of these hidden jewels of Maine were discovered"-- Provided by publisher.
