"Through rare and never-before-seen photographs, Amy Fleisher Madden, founder of Fiddler Records, thoughtfully and lovingly put together this moving archive of the second and third waves of emo. With a foreword by Chris Carrabba and revealing essays from Frank Iero, Geoff Rickly, Norman Brannon, and Matt Pryor, as well as insights and bite-sized narratives from photographers and other musicians of the era, this heartwarming time capsule expounds an extraordinary moment in music history, a scene that gave life to not only numerous big names but also to a powerful sound and even more powerful friendships"--
The focus of this book is on the great master artisans, architects and a musician who leapt to legendary greatness as children -- and whose lives personally exemplified Jesus' words: "With God, all things are possible." Readers will be surprised by the depth of individual spirituality these artists represented. Also in this book are amplified versions of scripture and psalms to inspire readers to live extraordinary lives with God's Gospel of Grace. We were born to have meaningful lives and God-given gifts to inspire and bless others. D. Dear Reader: I am the oldest of four girls and the co-author of this book, Ella Cosby, is the next oldest. Because we are only two years apart in age, we were very close growing up and spent a lot of time together. I noticed that Ella enjoyed drawing and exploring the great outdoors, always looking for an adventure or something to draw. When we were growing up, I always knew that my sister was artistically inclined. She loved to draw and eventually began painting. She was very good, even at a young age. She enjoyed painting pictures of people mostly, as they related to her heritage and her experience as a child growing up with three sisters Eventually, Ella began taking pictures with a disposable camera. She enjoyed that very much and soon purchased a better camera. She would take pictures of just about anything and anybody. It became her passion to capture people, places and things on camera. When the cell phone was discovered, she began taking pictures with her phone. Sometimes she would have both camera and phone taking pictures. Every day I see people doing great things, and it gives me great pleasure to write this forward for one of those persons. I have observed how much Ella loves taking pictures; it has become her passion. This book shows how much she enjoys it and how good she is at it. Ella and Vivian grew up in rural Pittsylvania County, Virginia, with two younger sisters and one brother. Their parents were hard workers who did what they needed to do in order to take care of their family. Vivian was the most studious child and Ella was more of a tomboy who enjoyed nature. At an early age, Ella began taking pictures, while Vivian enjoyed reading and writing. Bothe of the sisters still live in Pittsylvania County very close to one another and their two sisters. They enjoy making people happy and serving others in different capacities. At an early age, they were taught by their mother how to cook, clean, sew and how to become self-sufficient. They have walked in their late mother's shies and become true missionaries in their community. Ella has one sone who lives in Florida. Vivian is the proud mother of one son, a daughter-in-law, and three beautiful grandchildren who live in Florida.
Despite its unabated popularity with audiences, slapstick has received rather little scholarly attention, mostly by scholars concentrating on the US theater and cinema traditions. Nonetheless, as a form of physical humor slapstick has a long history across various areas of cultural production. This volume approaches slapstick both as a genre of situational physical comedy and as a mode of communicating an affective situation captured in various cultural products. Contributors to the volume examine cinematic, literary, dramatic, musical, and photographic texts and performances. From medieval chivalric romance and nineteenth-century theater to contemporary photography, the contributors study treatments of slapstick across media, periods and geographic locations. The aim of a study of such wide scope is to demonstrate how slapstick emerged from a variety of complex interactions among different traditions and by extension, to illustrate that slapstick can be highly productive for interdisciplinary research.
Seit TASCHEN im Jahr 1996 The Great American Pin-up herausbrachte, hat diese genuin amerikanische Kunstform international stark an Reputation gewonnen.

The editors of Life Magazine, a mass-produced picture magazine, composed picture narratives that entertained, informed, and influenced mid-twentieth-century American society. Photo-Essays about Asian American Women in Life Magazine 1936 to 1965: Hidden Narratives and Breaking Stereotypes is a rhetorical analysis of how Life Magazine's photo-essays represented and shaped white American middle-class attitudes toward Asian American women. In the time period studied, 1936 to1965, most white Americans were exposed to Asian woman primarily through film or in illustrated drawings. Hollywood in particular created caricatures depicting Asian women as evil dragon ladies or sex slaves, both of which implied prostitution, which affected their legal and social standing in early and mid-twentieth-century America. The book illustrates the ways in which the Life editors utilized the photo-essay as a narrative art form to counter stereotypical and racist Hollywood depictions of Asian women as prostitutes and to envision them as part of the American middle class, thereby promoting a sense of national identity that included Asians as Americans. This book will be of interest to scholars in the fields of women's studies, cultural studies, visual culture, Asian American studies, and history.
Normski: The Man with the Golden Shutter is the first book by celebrated photographer and broadcaster Normski.
Desire Lines follows old and new movements through the desert landscape of the Sonoran borderlands of the United States and Mexico: paths taken by migrants and border agents, of missionaries and conquistadors, of indigenous people and industrialists. The messy and at times violent collision of peoples has created a region that defies the harmfully simplistic narratives so frequently attributed to our borders. Shipley's photographs focus on the disorienting experience of this landscape - a place of beauty or danger depending on the perspective of those moving through it. Deceptively empty, the landscape is under constant watch, heavily surveilled and controlled, with an ever-increasing military presence that has seeped into the lives of residents in surrounding communities.
We are excited to announce the launch of Same Sum, a new photobook by Peter Happel Christian that playfully explores observation, chance, and the everyday magic of ordinary life. The included photographs are part of an ongoing, expansive project of the same name that began as intentional exercises in observation. The result is a vast collection of subjects and situations-some found, others constructed-that occur in parallel to Happel Christian's daily life. The title takes inspiration from an Italo Calvino essay wherein experience is fluid and meanings are flexible-that within the finite is an infinite. Similarly, the images in Same Sum have no fixed sequence, allowing for the possibility of seemingly endless experiences of the same images. The book's interactive design is inspired by card games and magic tricks; the double coil bound format creates two decks of photographs to riffle shuffle, creating a unique set of image combinations determined by chance with each read.
An introduction to the postmodern photographs of Allan Chasanoff, whose work interrogates and subverts the notion of photography as a truthful record of the real

This beautifully designed book shows just how many visual surprises and unusual perspectives this master of the unex- pected moment has to offer.

Thirteen words, thirteen protagonists, thirteen stories. This special journey crosses different regions and tells of mastery, know-how, emotions, and characters that honor ancient Italian traditions.Gaggia, the brand that invented espresso machines for bars and homes, wanted to represent Italian creativity in 13 stories. To achieve this, it selected the same number of contemporary artisans, including a blacksmith, a motorcycle restorer, a ceramist, a hatter, a tailor, and a creator of floral sets, and depicted them in the pages of the book through the images of Stefania Giorgi and the words of Laura Maggi. In this tale, coffee is an often invisible link; it represents the irreplaceable value of reflection, of time rediscovered, of having a break.
A dive into music history, from Joan Baez and Jimi Hendrix to Rihanna and Lady Gaga, exploring the eclectic interpretation of fashion and society.Frida Giannini’s book travels through time, weaving between music and style from 1969 to today. It is an iconographic journey made up of visual evocations, comparisons and contrasts, testimonies, and anecdotes. The starting point is 1969, the year of Woodstock, David Bowie’s “Space Oddity,” and the first man on the moon. It passes through the stages, concerts, and moments that made the history not only of music, but also of fashion. The view that tells, approaches, and explores famous figures—paying particular attention to the Thin White Duke—eras, and fashion is that of Frida Giannini, an expert in both worlds, who has made fashion her profession and music her great passion. Music also accompanied her professionally in her creative inspirations and references, and in first-person encounters with the protagonists of the entertainment world in the 2000s.This book also shines a spotlight on stage clothes, hairstyles, and sets, because the evolution of music accompanies the evolution of fashions, costumes, and changing society and vice versa, in a dialogue of influences, decades, and historical events.
