When author Vincent Yanez published his travel memoir, It Doesn't Matter Which Road You Take, readers wondered where the photographs were of the places he had visited. In commemoration of the upcoming 20th Anniversary of that adventure, this photographic collection not only contains images from that backpacking trip through Europe, but later journeys within Europe and America.

Mobile digital art: It is a new art form that has been widely developed since the smartphone. I used the Matter App of my smartphone to design this set of photos, through non-realistic shapes, to express my thinking and exploration of endless universes and parallel universes.

Today the nation of Afghanistan is synonymous with chaos, violence, war and poverty, yet it wasn't always that way. Just prior to the Soviet invasion and all the resultant wars that have followed, Afghanistan was a sleepy backwater content in its own simplicity. This book is a photo essay of what Afghanistan was like just before the era of endless wars. Photos from the 1970s illustrate the history of this land before it was broken by the competion of many outside forces.

Port Hope is located in Southern Ontario about 109 kilometers (68 miles) east of Toronto and about 159 kilometers (99 miles) west of Kingston. It is located at the mouth of the Ganaraska River on the north shore of Lake Ontario, in the west end of Northumberland County. Port Hope's nearest urban neighbor (25 kilometers to the west) is the City of Oshawa.Before Canada became a nation in 1867, Port Hope was already a boomtown. Its main streets were thronged with horse-drawn carriages and farmers' wagons, its plank sidewalks crowded with shoppers and merchandise. Wood-burning locomotives pulled heavily loaded trains through town on their way to a harbor filled with schooners and steamships. Solid brick commercial blocks and houses lined the streets.The town grew rapidly from four families of English descent who arrived by boat in 1793 and settled at the river mouth. The first European settlers came from the new United States. They had chosen to follow the British crown after the American Revolution. So had Elias Smith, a Montreal merchant who, with two partners, Jonathan and Abraham Walton, financed their arrival. In return for settling forty families on the land and building a sawmill and flourmill to serve them, the partners received a grant of land roughly the size of modern urban Port Hope.More families arrived including blacksmiths, carpenters, bricklayers, and merchants. The mills drew farmers from fifty and sixty kilometers away. Grain that could not be milled was bought by distilleries-there were eventually five along the river-that produced a famous Port Hope whisky. Its most rapid growth began when railways revolutionized travel in what is now Ontario.

There are splendid sights in the Niagara Peninsula. It is a pretty area in which to live, especially for a scenery photo-buff like me. I've put in a lot of mileage over the past 20 years during my spring and autumn photo jaunts. Winters are okay too, but I like spring and autumn photography the best because I do not have to keep my camera under my coat. Oh, and before I forget, I like spring and autumn the best because they are the most colourful times of the year. Let me give you a brief Overview first of all of some the significant landmarks and scenery within Niagara. Highlights include Ball's Falls, a hidden wonder near Vineland off Hwy 24, Jordan Village with quaint shops, Port Dalhousie with its two lighthouses and marinas, Morningstar Mill with the Decew Falls and the working pioneer gristmill, Niagara-on-the-Lake, voted the prettiest town in Canada in 1996, Queenston Heights, famous for the War of 1812 and now a lovely picnic site, and of course, Niagara Falls, a very loud and awe inspiring sight, and the seventh wonder of the world, and honeymoon capital.

At the heart of Beijing, the capital city of The People's Republic of China, lies a sprawling complex known as the Forbidden City. Once home to the Emperor of China, his family, and their servants, the Forbidden City was the political and ritual center of China for over five hundred years, spanning 24 Emperors from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. I traveled to Beijing in November of 2005 to attend the Beijing Film Academy's International Student Film and Video Festival. The Beijing Film Academy is the largest film and television school in Asia. My experimental video, I Love You So Much, won an honorable mention in the film festival competition. The festival organizers at BFA took our group of international visitors to The Great Wall of China at Badaling. This part of The Great Wall has been rebuilt to make it safe for tourists to climb the steep stairs leading from guard tower to tower. Most of the ancient parts of The Great Wall of China are in ramparts now, too dangerous to traverse. The welcome committee from The Beijing Film Academy were very gracious hosts. I think it's important to build an artistic and cultural bridge between China and the USA. All too often, Chinese-US relations are depicted as antagonistic in the US mass media. It's important to foster learning and open a frank, honest dialogue between artists from different backgrounds and different countries.The linguistic divide between myself and the Chinese students I met was challenging. At times I felt lost in translation. I learned to say one phrase in Mandarin that opened doors for me, the title of my movie, I Love You So Much: Wo zhen ay ni.

Fog is a very normal natural phenomenon, especially in autumn and winter mornings, so as a photographer, I often get up earlier than others, either waiting on the street or in the park. Fog gives people a feeling of tranquility, magic, confusion and unknown, and it is for this reason that I organize the foggy photos I took.

By looking specifically into the contexts where collaborative projects are produced and shown, and into the dialogical relation to the people they engage with -in hospitals, in prisons, in working-class neighbourhoods, with indigenous people, refugees, women, persons experiencing homelessness, young people- the contributions from practitioners, scholars, and curators show participatory practices to create the conditions for building new subjectivities, or making visible a multiplicity of identities, thus opening up a new politics of visibility. Therefore, this book specifically addresses the political, counter-cultural dimension of collaborative projects, but also their subversiveness in relation to dominant practices within the field of photography: this includes a reinvention of the position of the photographer -in turns facilitator or project leader- of curating and exhibition models, of archiving methodologies, of photographic education and of market practices.​
