Full Colour Paperback Edition: The Story of Dunmore East As far back as the Iron Age people established a promontory fort overlooking the sea at Shanoon (referred to in 1832 as meaning the 'Old Camp' but more likely Canon Power's Sean Uaimh, 'Old Cave') at a point known for centuries as Black Nobb, where the old pilot station now stands in Dunmore East. Hence forth referred to as Dún Mór, the Great Fort. In 1812 a decision was made at Westminster to create an entirely new landing point for passengers and mail coming to Ireland from London and southern England. The location selected was Dunmore East and £118,000 was set aside for the erection of a pier there. In 1814 dramatic changes took place when Alexander Nimmo, the Scottish engineer (builder of Limerick's Sarsfield Bridge) commenced work on the new harbour at Dunmore to accommodate the packet station for ships, which carried the Royal Mail between England and Ireland. The work consisted mainly of a massive pier or quay with an elegant lighthouse at the end. Nimmo's original estimate had been £20,000 but at the time of his death in 1832 about £93,000 had been spent and the final cost was £108,000. The great sheltered harbour then constructed meant that Dunmore East was to gradually become an important fishing port. It also then developed into a very popular tourist resort and it is now a favourite port of call for large cruise liners visiting the south east of Ireland. The Wenceslas Square, now sacred to the citizens of Prague, it saw the declaration of the First Czechoslovak Republic in 1918 after being freed from the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Then the Prague Spring in 1968 with the terrible Soviet repression, followed by the protest movements culminating in the dramatic suicide of the nineteen-year-old student Jan Palach, immolated in the flames in 1969. It followed only twenty years later the Velvet Revolution, the political process that forever dissolved the tyrannical communist regime.Prague was also a center of high European culture, where the theologian Jan Hus, rector of the University of Prague, promoted a religious movement considered the first forerunner of the Protestant Reformation. Excommunicated by the Catholic Church and condemned by the Council of Constance, he was burned at the stake in 1411. In 1621 the Protestants of Bohemia began to be persecuted and those who did not join Catholicism were forced to emigrate to France, a country better disposed to religious tolerance. Reflection is a valuable tool to understand the world we live in and photographs give us that. A good photograph should capture a specific moment when the subject appears in its glory to us. My daughter often says I can do that, I am unsure, I hope so. People are more than nothing. We all need to recognise a person when we come in contact with them and be able to say it is good to meet another person on this mysterious journey we call life.

12 long years in Cambodia teaching English. During that time I became enchanted with a bygone and humble mode of transportation locally known as the cyclo (see-klō). It is a pedal driven, three-wheeled taxi where the driver is perched and drives from behind and the passenger sits in front on a sun shaded chair. With the recent economic growth and burgeoning middle class in modern day Cambodia I felt that the cyclo's days were numbered. Citizens were more able to afford their own motorcycles and cars and became less dependent upon pay-as-you-go transportation methods. So I wanted to document what I thought were the waning days of the cyclo. I did this through photographs and interviews with the drivers, which I captured in this book.
