A beautiful photographic celebration of the world's 18 species of penguin. Featuring breathtaking photographs of the world's 18 species of penguin, Mission Penguin takes you to many of the remotest places on earth, from the Falkland and Galapagos Islands, to the Antipodes Islands and Tristan da Cunha. Following the loss of her husband, Ursula Clare Franklin embarked on a personal mission to see and photograph every species of penguin in their natural habitat. The result is a remarkable showcase of penguins - hundreds of striking photographs accompanied by engaging text that details the penguins' features and characteristics. Each chapter explores a new penguin species and details Ursula's spectacular journey to see and photograph these much-loved birds. This astonishing and informative book explores the difficulties all penguins face and how humanity's actions have threatened their very existence. Ursula warns of the devastating effects of climate change and the conservation efforts needed to ensure future generations can continue to experience the healing presence of penguins. This is a story that will inspire, uplift and educate.
"This is the essential guide to the north of Scotland, on a route which begins in Inverness, weaves westwards to Applecross and then northwards towards Torridon. From Ullapool it leads to the most northerly points in Britain, passing by Caithness and John o' Groats before heading south again through Dingwall and to Inverness. In addition to stunning mountains, moors, lochs and beaches, the route also features exquisite towns and villages, castles, distilleries, breweries, natural wonders and wildlife. Brigid Benson, who knows the road intimately, divides the route into manageable chunks, suggesting where to discover history, observe wildlife, meet great local characters, shop at quirky stores, taste outstanding food, drink in friendly bars and cafes, stand in awe of amazing sights, and recommending places to picnic, swim, surf, walk and stargaze. And great places to camp and stay. She also draws attention to attention to potential pitfalls, offering useful advice on single-track roads, fuel, car problems, planning realistic itineraries, and much more."--Publisher.
From 0 to 30the first part of a photographic journey to improve your shots, understand the photographic equipment and perform the first successful experiments. Let's imagine that to become a photographer, you need to get 100% knowledge. We also imagine that this knowledge can be acquired by learning all the photographic material, or a good part of it, by degrees.Hence the idea of these 4 manuals was born. In the first manual, from zero to 30, we will discover all the bases to start our wonderful journey, going to orient ourselves in this infinite world, which must never scare us.Whether you only own a smartphone, or have purchased the best SLR camera on the market, this manual will help you understand how to orient yourself, or perhaps how to start again if you have taken a path that is not giving you the long-awaited satisfaction. these pages that we will go through together, I have chosen to talk about basic techniques (exposure triangle, depth of field, shooting parameters, focus, formats, photographic crop and composition). Only in the second part of the book will I talk about useful equipment (camera bodies, lenses, accessories). This is because I would like to face the study of the equipment, after having understood what the points of attention are.It will take us a year. A book every 3 months. It will take some time to settle, try and try again. This will, probably, be the best year of our life.It will be the year of the best gift to our precious soul as a photographer. I wish you a good reading, and an extraordinary training!
A collaborative project between the Prix Pictet and the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, focusing on the work of thirty internationally recognized photographers from twenty-four countries.
An illuminating introduction to little-known photographer Issei Suda, who captured the soul of Japan old and new. The work of Issei Suda (1940-2019) is distinct in contemporary avant-garde Japanese photography for its celebration of the beauty of the everyday. His black and white pictures reflect on apparent banality of urban life, capturing 'the little surprises usually ignored in our world': the shadow of a figure, the shapes of the street, the expressions on stranger's faces. Suda's practice revealed the tensions between old and new Japan, juxtaposing the ingrained visual traditions of Japanese culture with the prevailing western vocabulary of fashion, advertising and leisure, as seen through his observant and tender lens.

Let's get one thing out of the way: Penile Photography is Art. Taken seriously and elevated to the artistic level it deserves, penile photography is so much more than the hastily taken photographs, quickly published to social media and an unsuspecting, uninterested viewer. While so- called "dick pics", (vulgar slang for penis photographs) have become a ubiquitous, yet unwelcome element in modern culture, photographically it is none the less trite and banal. The penis is a beautiful organ, symbolically intriguing, functionally dynamic and full of meaning to its owner. The personal artistic endeavor of photographing one's own penis is a journey of self-discovery, a liberation from notions of expression of personal creativity and healthy self-love. This book will inspire and help you elevate your plain and uninspiring penis photos to beautiful penile art that is appreciated on a multitude of levels.
55 Late Portraits of Hairakhan Babaji Mahavatar rivisited by Gianbarberis with poems. A journey in the temple of the Mahavatar, starting from the contemplation of form to reach the formless Infinite. Any time that mankind faces difficult periods the Divine comes down on Earth to help the transformation, to show the way. Appeared in India, at Hairakhan, a remote village at the foothills of Himalayas, in these years of wordly crisis at every level, Babaji, the Mahavatar, came to bring His message of Truth, Simplicity and Love. Three basic principles, essence of all religions, that are the three faces of the One: Love. Only Love: it's only Love that brought Him among us, Love for mankind and for the whole Creation. This living miracle, god omnipresent in every atom in the universe and at the same time in a physical body, condensed Love, has been portrayed in His daily Simplicity. This book is a journey in the Temple of His Face, where every portrait, harbinger of Truth, is the occasionfor an exchange, His infinite Love flowing together with a love song, inspiration for a thousand others, in an endless interchange: Only Love.

The Asolo hills are a group of hills in the province of Treviso and appear as a chain of seven mountains divided by small valleys. The maximum altitude is reached from the Collalto mountain with 496 meters and the lowest from the hill San Martino with 379 meters. The northern slope is connected to the southern one by the Mostacin Forcella, the pass that is located towards the halfway of the chain. They present themselves as the first impact of transition from the Veneto plain to the Treviso mountain area. The medieval village of Asolo, located at the foot of the Rocca Braida, a fortress dated between the 12th and 13th centuries, is the main center and the guide from the western side of the entire hill chain. The Venetian Caterina Cornaro, formerly Queen of Cyprus, was named Lady of Asolo from the Serenissima Republic of Venice in 1489 and lived in the castle, which now bears her name, preserving the title and rank of queen. At her court Caterina attracted artists and writers, including Giorgione, Lorenzo Lotto and Pietro Bembo, who here composed and set "Gli Asolani", his most famous work. The favorable climate and the serenity of the places attracted over the years numerous illustrious men including the British Robert Browning, where he composed his last lyric "Asolando", the English traveler Freya Stark and the Italian actress Eleonora Duse, who chose Asolo to live forever, oriented towards the Monte Grappa.

I started life as a black and white portrait photographer. By the time I got to 18 I was a good one. Then life took a turn and I lost my way. Many years later I have revisited people I know and have enjoyed capturing their smiles, etc. One reason I stopped doing portraits is because I didn't know what they were good for and how they could save the world. Feel much the same umpteen decades later. Memories of loved ones, captured with some of their essence are valuable to some people though. I hope you enjoy these pictures and get something out of them, and when you do send me an email and tell me what it was. That would be very nice of you.
Wroclaw is the historical capital of Silesia, on the banks of the Oder River. In various eras it was part of Poland, Bohemia, Prussia and Germany. Only in 1945, at the end of the Second World War, it returned to Poland.Silesia, border region between Slavic and Germanic peoples for a long time, it was the scene of serious conflicts which culminated in the twentieth century with the tragic Nazi and Communist persecutions against the relative political opposition. The anti-Communist movements of the eighties were remembered by the numerous gnome statues that replaced graffiti written on the walls of the city in contempt of the power imposed by Soviet domination. Now those bronze statues that represent nice figures engaged in normal daily activities became the symbol of Wroclaw. Even the 14 bronze statues that sink and re-emerge near a crossing of center want to remember the martial law proclaimed by General Jaruzelski in 1981 and revoked two years later.Wroclaw is a Polish city still little known to mass tourism, but these pictures testify to the presence of a noble architecture that deserves to be known and appreciated more, thanks also to the romantic banks of the Oder River which reflect the intense swirl of its colors.
A photo documentarian, Alexandra Dietz turns her lens on the colorful denizens of Key West, FL. Inspired by her exhibit at The Studios of Key West, this collection of photographs sums up the diversity of people she has encountered in this Southernmost City in the Continental United States. "I impart my curiosity about people," she says, "and try to inspire my viewers to ask more questions of themselves and those they meet." Alexandra Dietz holds a BFA in photography from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, went on to receive a Fulbright Nehru scholarship, and is currently based in Key West, FL.
This book offers a visual-poetic journey with images that speak to the mind and the soul. Each page holds a surprise, a feast of pictures and poetry in which you want to lose yourself. A world of dreams, yet profoundly real. The photographs are not the work of a photographer but of the poet George Douatzis, whose photographic viewpoint reminds us that reality has very beautiful aspects, provided we are able to see them. Through the poet's eye images of the everyday acquire another dimension. And his verses which accompany them create a lovely, human and, primarily, poetic result.

At the center of it all, one inspired, improbable, and highly combustible couple?Dennis Hopper and Brooke Hayward?lived out the emblematic love story of '60s L.A.The home these two glamorous young actors created for themselves and their family at 1712 North Crescent Heights Boulevard in the Hollywood Hills became the era's unofficial living room, a kaleidoscopic realm??furnished like an amusement park,?
