A vibrant contemporary art anthology that explores the complex ties between race, climate crisis, and colonialism by over 150 leading artists of African diasporic, Latin American, and Native American identity.
The collection titled "Expressions" consists of 50 computer-generated images, each featuring a female eye. The eyes portrayed in these images are not real, but rather a product of digital rendering. They do not belong to any particular person, yet at the same time, they belong to everyone. Although they appear to gaze at nothing in particular, their gaze is all-encompassing, directed towards all of us. The eyes are adorned with makeup that was never actually applied by anyone, but represents every type of makeup that has ever been used. Using Artificial Intelligence software called "Text to image," each image is generated by composing a line of text, which led to a series of eyes and a set of unanswerable questions.

A meeting between Pissarro and a Danish Golden Age painter proved decisive for French Impressionism This book adds another dimension to our knowledge of the emergence of French Impressionism. In approximately 1850, the later 'father' of French Impressionism, Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) met the Danish painter Fritz Melbye (1826-69) in Pissarro's hometown on St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, at that time a Danish colony. This book argues that Melbye is a 'missing link' between the Danish Golden Age and French Impressionism - and the now almost unknown Melbye thus had a significant influence on the beginning of Impressionism. In 2017, the Ordrupgaard museum in Denmark held the exhibition Pissarro. A Meeting on St. Thomas on the occasion of the centenary of the sale of the Virgin Islands. This extended and revised book presents new research that the exhibition gave rise to.
Fifty-six buildings, realized in South Tyrol in 2018-24, were selected by an international jury to tell the region's most recent architectural history. New Architecture in South Tyrol 2018-24 features them in thematic groups and lavishly illustrated with photographs, plans, and drawings, many of which have never been published before. Essays and critical observations supplement the images. Together, they open up a dialogue, reveal hidden connections, and inspire new reflections. Texts and images invite readers to discover and understand architecture and its motivations. This book continues the series that has comprehensively documented architectural developments and the rich building culture in South Tyrol since 2000. It is the unique building culture of a region that is characterized by an open, forward-looking view of traditional approaches in architecture.
Zhang Pengju's buildings explore the intersection of architecture and landscape as topographical art. His architectural practice is deeply rooted in the terrain and local history of China's Inner Mongolia region and at the same embodies contemporary architecture at its best. He engages in defining and cultivating topographical order and demonstrates how creative thinking can transform the fragments of our living conditions and our lives into images of a unified world. The seventeen realized designs featured in Genuine Construction exemplify the architect's approach. Each project is introduced by a concise text and presented through color photographs, plans, drawings, and sketches showing the use of natural materials, smooth lines, and humble models that skillfully blend these buildings into their surroundings. A foreword by David Leatherbarrow, professor emeritus at the University of Pennsylvania's Stuart Weitzman School of Design, and essays by Chem Zhao, professor at Nanjing University's School of Architecture and Urban Planning, and Yonggao Shin, associate professor at Southeast University's School of Architecture in Nanjing, round out this monograph. Genuine Construction showcases outstanding designs that are also manifestations of a new and noteworthy trend in contemporary architecture worldwide.

Lichen is a design incubator, studio, and furniture store co-founded by Jared Blake and Ed Be in 2017. Our Floors Are Uneven is a documentation of Lichen's first five years. Our Floors Are Uneven catalogs Lichen's evolution through photos, essays, and a rigorous design index. When flipping through its 272 pages you will, of course, see a lot of furniture but, surprisingly, you will see even more people. Beyond anything, Our Floors Are Uneven documents the relationships that embody Lichen's mycological name and ethos. Through four sections and more than 300 images Lichen's unprecedented identity in the staid world of interiors comes to life. What began as a cozy vintage furniture store is now a robust in- house design studio, a stand-alone woodshop and production facility, a lively multi-faceted storefront, and a formidable player in the design industry. Our Floors Are Uneven effectively captures the ineffable charm of Lichen and preserves it for posterity in this handsome work of taxonomy and intimate documentary. The book offers a new conceptual and historical framework for the study of Kocher's body of work that relocates it within the history of American modern architecture.>Kocher's ideological position and his continuous eagerness for experimentation transformed him into an atypical practitioner. While many of his contemporaries were purely design focused, he established a very avant-garde symbiosis among his three main endeavors: his work as an educator, as a scholar, and as a practitioner. Some of his architectural works can be seen as manifestos that would later further develop in the articles of Architectural Record. Some others are the direct and material demonstrations of industrial systems and materials previously explored in his articles. Even other works are conceived and executed as part of a pedagogical activity. It is rare to find an architectural design in Kocher's body of work that does not demonstrate a multitude of interconnections among his pedagogy, his editorial work, and his scholarship.
The aim of the Handbook is to strike a balance between theory and practice, which we see as inseparable, while also seeking to achieve a geographical spread, disciplinary diversity and perspectives, and a mix of authors from academic, practitioner, management, and community backgrounds.
