Over 90 artists' depictions of boxing, from Vito Acconci to Carrie Mae WeemsThis book documents an expansive, traveling group exhibition centered on the sport, psychology, ethos and spectacle of boxing. Artists have often gravitated toward the "sweet science" as a subject, and have investigated the boxer as an icon and metaphor for excellence, physical power, perseverance, achievement and perhaps humanity itself, representing its wins and losses, regiment and fluidity, violence and artistry. Given the wealth of depictions of boxers throughout art history, this book explores the sport as inspiration with objects and works by more than 90 artists, ranging in time from ancient to contemporary, and spanning the media of painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and film. The book is fully illustrated with an extensive plate section, and features new texts by artist and Founder of the Church, Eric Fischl, as well as Sara Cochran, Jonathan Rider, Arden Sherman and Robert Lipsyte. Featured artists include: Muhammad Ali, Benny Andrews, Diane Arbus, Jean-Michel Basquiat, George Bellows, Judy Chicago, Rosalyn Drexler, Fab 5 Freddy, Eric Fischl, Chase Hall, Lyle Ashton Harris, Edward Hopper, Rashid Johnson, Martin Kippenberger, Justine Kurland, Glenn Ligon, Robert Mapplethorpe, Christian Marclay, Howardena Pindell, Ed Ruscha, Alison Saar, Andres Serrano, Carrie Mae Weems. This book was published in conjunction with The FLAG Art Foundation, New York; The Church, Sag Harbor; Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach

What it means to design at a time when, for many people, the future seems to have become an impossibility. When reality fails us, what can design do? Question design’s relationship to reality, as Anthony Dunne and Fiona Raby do, in this exhilarating, yet thoughtful journey to the edges of science, philosophy, and literature to find new ways of thinking about the possible—and about the meaning, function, and place of design in that speculative world of “not here, not now.” A conceptual travelogue of sorts, Not Here, Not Now brings together words, images, and objects that capture, in design form, some of the ideas encountered along the way. Itself a design experiment, the book explores ways to bring these ideas into conversation with objects through imagined archives, libraries, glossaries, taxonomies, lists, tales, and essays. The design responses in Not Here, Not Now—to a stone raft, e.g., or a vegetable lamb, swatches of imaginary colors, a pocket universe in the home, objects undergoing space-time collapse—are, like the most compelling utopias, impossible by design, aiming instead to nourish the creative, intellectual, and imaginative ground from which new possibilities, still unknown, might begin to emerge.
This book provides an insight into the legal workings of the most ostentatious fashion sector, couture, whilst simultaneously advocating for stronger legal protection in this industry. It will be of interest to researchers in the field of fashion law, copyright law, art and intellectual property.
Moving freely across mediums, disciplines and generations, Zibaldone is a collective portrait of the debate on architecture and the city of the past decade. Half text, half images, diary and anthology, atlas and scrapbook, postcard collection and visual essay, Zibaldone invites the readers to build their paths, drawing constellations from a network of points. As such, the book opens a reflection on the curatorial practice as a means to construct common knowledge about architecture, enlarging horizons and multiplying agencies. Zibaldone records CAMPO's activity as a dynamic platform gathering a multitude of experiments, enquiries and research methods by more than 100 contributors.
This book is about a late medieval house, which seems to have disappeared. It is called Anwards, and was located in the southern part of Tidenham Parish near Sedbury, which is bounded by the rivers Severn and Wye.I am interested in house history, so when I discovered Anwards was a 'capital house', it became a challenge to know more. I was curious about the people who lived in it over the centuries; their lives, status and values. This is a detective story and some discoveries may be of surprise even to local residents. Several of the people mentioned may also have links with the present. In fact, in the process of this investigation, I have learnt how settlements changed and are still changing. Also, how the orchards, which were once so prevalent here, have sadly vanished.
This is not only a book about Vittorio Gregotti's projects and works, but rather a historical-critical analysis of his peculiar figure. Like few others, Gregotti embodied the model of the architect-intellectual that characterised post-war Italian design culture.

This is the history of colonialism as seen though the architecture of Israel/Palestine. Tel Aviv is the 'White City', said to have risen from the sands of the desert, acclaimed worldwide for its architectural heritage and gleaming Bauhaus-inspired Modernism.*BR**BR*Jaffa is the 'Black City', the Palestinian city that was largely obliterated to make way for a new European-style architecture at the heart of a newly-formed Israel. *BR**BR*Both a gripping narrative and a unique architectural record, this book shows how any city in the world is made not only of stones and concrete but also of stories and histories - victors and losers, predator and prey. In this way, the legend of the Black City and the White City, architecture and war, is our story too.
