This volume explores the political life of rage as it has been experienced and mobilized in the Francosphere since 1968. If mai is remembered as a failure to convert insurrectionary feeling into lasting political change, the vast number of activist groups who have alchemized their anger into resistance over the past fifty years are a testament to the continued, necessary role of rage in political life. This volume traces the various morphologies of anger across French-language literature, thought, cinema and activism. From Black feminisms to punk, flamboyance to suicide, cacophonous sound to riotous song, the contributions probe the aesthetics and politics of rage. This collection also examines the uneven legitimization of political anger - how rage is allowed to be expressed, by whom and in which contexts. Rage is often dismissed as inimical to proper academic inquiry: what unites the contributions in this publication is a commitment to thinking with feeling.

Art is a constant point of reference for the exploration of the different manifestations of empathy and of its cognitive, affective and moral dimensions. Bringing together 15 essays from a team of established and rising philosophers, this volume sheds light on how both representational and non-representational forms of art allow empathic engagement. It examines the significance of such engagement for cognition, our emotive life and our moral stance. Opening with a historical reconstruction of the origins of empathy, or 'Einfühlung', in the German-speaking world from the late 19th to the early 20th century, the collection highlights the relevance of those early insights for current debates. Structured into four parts, chapters explore our emphatic engagement with fictional characters, with the inanimate in art forms such as film, music and architecture, with the cognitive value of empathy with fiction, and finally our emphatic response to fiction in relation to our moral attitudes. The contributors reflect on these specific themes and bring into sharp focus our emphatic engagement with works of art from historical, systematic and interdisciplinary perspectives.

This book is about the role of emotions in the creation and dissipation of feminist collectives and grapples with difficult questions that have been circulating for a while in activist circles but are far from answered.

A deeply personal motherhood memoir about how the challenges moms face daily sharpen them into stronger, braver, and better parents for their children.Motherhood is hard. It's full of plenty of moments where a mom might think, “I don’t know if I can do this.” Danielle Sherman-Lazar has had this thought many times as she’s raised her four young daughters under 10, from her struggles with breastfeeding to two of her daughters’ stays at the NICU. Through personal and honest stories on motherhood and her struggles with eating disorders, Mothers are Made shows how moms aren’t instantly born along with their babies—mothers are made through time and experience. It's when mothers go through the fire, Danielle argues, that we are forged into resilient, brave, and courageous parents.Danielle's writing is raw and relatable, and she shows how overcoming challenges with eating disorders, then facing the challenges of perfectionism, self-doubt, anxiety, and loneliness has given her tremendous inner strength, resilience, and confidence. Through real stories full of honesty, love, tenderness, and humor, she reminds her readers that they, too, have the knowledge and tenacity to persevere through any obstacle.Mothers are Made will help moms realize that they can handle crises as they arise—large or small. And they will recognize that they are not alone in their struggles. Danielle’s vulnerability will help readers find the courage to keep going through the uncomfortable parts of motherhood, knowing they’ll get to the other side—a better, happier, and stronger mom.

Open your mind to the signs you receive every day With the stress of day-to-day life, it can be hard to tune out the noise and listen to what really matters. In this book, neuroscientist Dr Tara Swart explains that your instincts and senses are sending you important messages you are probably missing. These are 'the signs' and they can guide you to your best life, if you can open your mind to receive them.Dr Swart will take you through lessons based in both science and spirituality to unlock your signs - from how to tune into the senses you're not consciously aware of, to practices our ancestors used to alter their minds and the importance of appreciating the beauty around you. Drawing on research on near-death experiences and past-life memories, she demonstrates that there may be more to consciousness than we can explain and reason to pay attention to the coincidences and synchronicities that show up in your day. With your mind attuned to your signs, you will discover your true purpose, know your direction and achieve your goals without fear. Open yourself up to your signs and live a life without limits.
